    FACULTY VACANCY ANNOUNCEMENT

    The Gaming Pathways Game Design Program at the City College of New York seeks two individuals who will be appointed in the title of Distinguished Lecturer (non-tenure track). Distinguished Lecturers are experienced practitioners or teachers who hold full-time, non-tenure track position with a maximum appointment period of seven years, subject to annual reappointment. These individuals will work with the Director of Gaming Pathways and the Dean of Science and will share active collaboration with all partners of the Gaming Pathways program.

    • Working within the Gaming Pathways plan of study, the Distinguished Lecturers will be responsible for teaching courses in one or more topics related to the creation and production of analog and digital games, including game visual design, game programming and/or game development. Courses in the plan of study will include courses in game art and visual design (including 2D design, 30 design, and UI design for games) as well as courses in game programming (including at least three levels of Unity programming and one level of Unreal Engine programming.) The DL's will also share in responsibility of teaching team game production courses and senior project courses. The DL's help the Director of Gaming Pathways to evolve these classes, create new electives in game programming and/or game visual design, and evaluate the plan of study.

    • The DL's should keep current with technologies related to digital games and development and current design, creative, and programming practices. The DL's should also work closely with the Gaming Pathways College Laboratory Technician to ensure that key equipment and software is maintained on the program's equipment in classrooms.

    • In line with the game development processes, the DL's will serve in a critical role reviewing student projects and providing feedback-to student teams on their aesthetic decisions, narration, theme, and execution of projects.

    • The DL's will help create Gaming Pathways related materials for recruitment and outreach by lendingdesign expertise to program related materials including printed materials, web elements, and other digitalcomponents.

    GENERAL DUTIES

    • Teaching 4-6 courses each academic year from an approved curriculum.

    • Developing future courses for Gaming Pathways ranging from courses in game visual design, UX/UI for games, programming in Unity and Unreal Engine, game development, and/or game production

    • Consulting and design on Gaming Pathways Plan of Study and game programming and development courses

    • Participating in school recruitment and retention initiatives and Gaming Pathways activities

    • Working closely with students to help them with tutoring and academic development

    • Completing service activities in accordance with City College standards

    • Maintaining expertise in subject area and recommending improvements in curriculum design

    QUALIFICATIONS

    Bachelor's degree and a record of achievement in a profession or field of expertise related to teaching assignments. Also required is the ability to cooperate with others for the good of the institution.

    PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS

    • Four years of experience in a development role on a game project involving art, design, and/or programming.

    • Experience teaching courses in areas such as game design, art, programming or project management at the undergraduate level.

    • Experience leading creative teams and strong project management skills.

    • Experience working in digital game development in at least one of the two following fields: 1) both 2D and 3D design including concepiing, asset creation, animation, and user interface and/or 2) experience with multiple game programming languages, including specifically C-based languages. Candidates should be familiar with Unity and Unreal Engine as well as other game development languages.

    • Experience working in a game development team with other roles including producers, artists, and designers

    • Familiarity with classroom-based software: Adobe Creative Suite, Maya, Unity, as well as Git, Visual Studio; FileMaker, Excel, Dropbox, and Google Drive.

    • Candidate should have strong interpersonal skills, organizational ability with attention to detail, and strong written and oral communication. Experience with grant writing, art exhibition installation, and a background or degree in gaming or design is a plus.

    COMPENSATION

    Salary Range: $80,000 - $95,000
