As a Designer in Engineering Services, you'll provide solutions and services that help our customers protect and control critical electrical infrastructure and power systems worldwide.

    As a Designer in Engineering Services a typical day might include the following:

    • Creating detailed substation physical and electrical designs and support job estimates under the supervision of a technical lead.

    • Preparing CAD drawings and other project documentation.

    • Providing design engineering support to project technical leads.

    • Completing assigned work and submitting within timelines and budgets with a high level of quality.

    • Developing and maintaining an acceptable level of expertise in SEL and industry design practices.

    • Assisting and mentoring junior designers and/or drafters with technical tasks. (For Designer 2/3 level)

    • Developing and maintaining an acceptable level of knowledge of SEL equipment and solutions for electric power system protection and automation.

    • Using best available processes and tools and provide feedback on process enhancements.

    This job might be for you if possess the following:

    • BSET At SEL, we create digital products and solutions that protect, control, and automate power systems or related design degree from an accredited college or university OR Associates degree in EET, CAD, Drafting, or relevant discipline; or possess equivalent experience for each academic year.

    • Demonstrated competency in CAD drafting (AUTOCAD or Bluebeam).

    • Two plus years of relevant experience with high voltage electrical design, including several projects in substation design or protective relay controls systems.

    • Electrical utility, consulting or system integrator experience.

    • Application knowledge of protective relay applications and/or automation applications.

    • Ability to learn concepts and technical details of products.

    Pay Range Data

    Designer I: $30.00 -$36.00 per hour

    Designer II: $34.00 - $41.25 per hour

    Designer III: $39.33 - $48.00 per hour

    We are open to reviewing additional candidates with more or less experience and the pay range may differ if filled at a different level. Our pay ranges are determined by job, responsibility, and location. We base our starting pay offer and title on location and job-related factors such as candidate experience, training, knowledge, and skills.
