    Electrical Subject Matter Expert (SME) - Facilities Maintenance and Construction

    Position Overview: As an Electrical Subject Matter Expert (SME) specializing in Facilities Maintenance and Construction, including data centers, you will play a pivotal role in ensuring the electrical infrastructure within our facilities is maintained, upgraded, and constructed to the highest standards of safety, efficiency, and reliability. Your expertise will be instrumental in overseeing electrical projects, providing technical guidance, and ensuring compliance with industry regulations, particularly within data center environments where uptime and reliability are paramount.

    Key Responsibilities

    1. Electrical Project Management:

    2. Lead and manage electrical maintenance and construction projects within data center facilities from conception to completion.

    3. Develop project plans, schedules, and budgets in collaboration with stakeholders, ensuring adherence to strict uptime requirements.

    4. Coordinate with contractors, vendors, and internal teams to ensure projects are executed efficiently and within specifications, minimizing disruption to data center operations.

    5. Monitor project progress, identify risks, and implement mitigation strategies to ensure timely delivery and minimize impact on critical infrastructure.

    6. Technical Guidance:

    7. Serve as the primary technical authority on electrical systems within data centers, including power distribution, backup power systems, and cooling infrastructure.

    8. Provide expert advice and guidance on electrical design, installation, and maintenance practices specific to data center environments.

    9. Conduct technical reviews and evaluations of electrical systems to identify opportunities for improvement and optimization, balancing reliability with energy efficiency.

    10. Stay abreast of industry trends, best practices, and emerging technologies in data center electrical infrastructure to drive innovation and operational excellence.

    11. Compliance and Safety:

    12. Ensure compliance with electrical codes, regulations, and standards governing data center facilities maintenance and construction, including industry-specific standards such as TIA-942 and Uptime Institute Tier Standards.

    13. Conduct regular inspections and audits to assess electrical safety and identify potential hazards that could impact data center uptime and reliability.

    14. Develop and implement safety protocols, procedures, and training initiatives tailored to the unique risks associated with data center electrical systems.

    15. Troubleshooting and Problem Solving:

    16. Investigate electrical issues within data center environments, diagnose problems, and propose effective solutions to address technical challenges while minimizing downtime.

    17. Conduct root cause analysis of electrical failures and implement corrective actions to prevent recurrence, leveraging best practices for fault tolerance and redundancy.

    18. Provide technical support during emergency situations, such as power outages or equipment malfunctions, to restore critical services and maintain data center operations.

    19. Documentation and Reporting:

    20. Maintain accurate records of electrical assets, maintenance activities, and project documentation within data center facilities.

    21. Prepare comprehensive reports, technical documentation, and presentations for internal stakeholders and regulatory authorities, demonstrating compliance and performance metrics.

    22. Analyze data and performance metrics specific to data center electrical infrastructure to track key performance indicators (KPIs) and optimize operational efficiency.

    Qualifications

    • Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering or related field (Master's degree preferred).

    • Professional Engineer (PE) license or equivalent certification is highly desirable.

    • Extensive experience (minimum 7 years) in electrical maintenance, construction, or facilities management, with a focus on commercial and industrial facilities, including data centers.

    • In-depth knowledge of electrical codes, regulations, and standards applicable to data center facilities maintenance and construction, including TIA-942 and Uptime Institute Tier Standards.

    • Proven track record of successfully managing electrical projects within data center environments, with a strong emphasis on uptime and reliability.

    • Strong technical proficiency in electrical systems design, installation, troubleshooting, and maintenance, particularly within data center environments.

    • Excellent communication skills with the ability to convey complex technical concepts to diverse audiences, including non-technical stakeholders.

    • Exceptional problem-solving abilities and attention to detail, with a demonstrated ability to prioritize and manage multiple projects simultaneously.

    • Proficiency in project management software, CAD tools, and Microsoft Office Suite, with a keen understanding of data center infrastructure management (DCIM) tools and software.
