    Job Description

    Primary Purpose of Role

    The Environmental Engineer performs professional engineering work to protect or improve air, land and water resources in order to provide a clean and healthful environment utilizing a robust Environmental Management System. This work requires a professional knowledge of the principles, methods and techniques of engineering concerned with facilities and systems for controlling pollution and protecting quality of resources and the environment. An understanding and the ability to utilize pertinent aspects of chemistry, biological sciences and public health that pertain to the control or elimination of pollutants are also major functions. Strong regulatory knowledge of federal, state and local laws is a must. Join a group of Environmental Engineers that are responsible developing and sustaining proactive management systems, checks and balances, and other necessary systems to ensure effective environmental compliance at the plant and facilities.

    Key Responsibilities

    • Provide oversight and ensures regulatory compliance of applicable regulatory requirements. Focus area is on waste, waste related activities, recycling and alternative sustainable usage activities.

    • Access, research, interpret and effectively communicate environmental regulations and requirements.

    • Additional knowledge and oversight with site waste and projects, RCRA, CAA, NPDES, CWA, POTW, SARA, TSCA, DOT and ISO14001 Management Systems.

    • Develop and maintain detailed records of all environmental activities for the facility. Organize and maintain an accurate filing system and accessible online database. Update pertinent charts and graphs of data in a timely manner.

    • Provide environmental training and other communication, as necessary, to personnel at all levels and functions of the organizations. May attend production meetings to deliver environmental training or follow up. May need to travel to satellite plants to deliver training as needed.

    • Track key compliance metrics and implement systems to improve performance within the organization. Identify ways to reduce waste, with an emphasis on pollution prevention. Drive alternative reuse of waste or other programs to sustain Zero Waste to Landfill status.

    • Routinely communicate with state and federal regulatory agencies to meet reporting requirements as needed.

    • Complete HAZWOPER training and perform necessary environmental clean ups to releases and events at the facility.

    • Develop, implement, and test plans to minimize environmental risks (e.g. spill plans, RCRA contingency plans, SPCC, HAZWOPER, EAP, SWPPP, etc.)

    • Effectively track regulatory and corporate due dates for reporting, permit renewals, etc. and meet deadlines with sufficient time to facilitate review and approval by management and the timely submission of information.

    • Confirm and complete all ISO 14001 tasks as assigned. (e.g. weekly waste inspections throughout the production facility and outside grounds as well as frequent follow up within the facility on non-conforming material/waste management).

    • Performs routine site inspections of areas, containers, work sites contractors, all levels of employees and other environmental activities. Requirement to document all non-conformances and track corrective action to completion.

    Competencies

    • Knowledgeable of environmental regulations including, RCRA, TSCA, SPCC, SWPPP, HAZWOPER, DOT and other waste related regulations.

    • High level of proficiency with Microsoft programs (Excel, Word, PowerPoint, Teams).

    • Effectively communicate and interact with all levels of personnel.

    • Competent technical writing experience.

    • Ability to make evidence-based deductions.

    • Understanding of environmental analytical methods and procedures required.

    • Highly focused, detail oriented, and self-motivated.

    • Required to effectively interact with other department managers, and regulatory officials in a manner that sets a positive image for the Company.

    Qualifications

    Required :

    • Bachelors degree in Environmental Engineering or related field

    Preferred

    • CHMM or equivalent certification

    • Current on RCRA training.

    • Current on HAZWOPER training (Operations Level).

    Experience

    Required :

    • 3+ years' experience in Environmental Engineer or closely related role

    Preferred :

    • 5+ years' experience in Environmental Engineer or closely related role

    • Experience working with AutoCAD, MAXIMO, Ariba, and SAP.

    • Experience working with Safety Data Sheets and Chemical Product Data Sheets and interpreting relevant chemical and environmental data from the information provided.
