    The Environmental Technician shall provide engineering services support basic to complex modifications, and installation of equipment or future expansion at the Component Research Air Facility and other facilities supporting the Air Force Research Laboratory at Wright-Patterson AFB (WPAFB).

    Candidate MUST possess as a minimum the technical skills and knowledge detailed below.

    Responsibilities

    • Provide on-site non-personal services for processing inventory; maintaining ESOH compliance; and checkout of instrumentation and instrumentation/control systems.

    • Operation and maintenance of equipment and related specialty devices belonging to or being maintained by the Aerospace Systems Directorate (RQ) in support of research.

    • Accomplish all required tasks on both a scheduled and unscheduled basis.

    • Maintain equipment maintenance, calibration, and ESOH records.

    • Provide planning and administration support for the RQ Chemical Hygiene Program to ensure compliance with federal, state, and local environmental protection and occupational health regulations as they pertain to hazardous materials (HAZMAT), hazardous wastes (HW), and safety.

    • Conducting monthly inspections of assigned laboratory areas and routine inspections of safety equipment, annotating discrepancies, and recommending corrective actions.

    • Support ESOH tasking and provide ESOH information and guidance.

    • Support acquisition and distribution of personnel protective equipment and hazardous spill containment and clean-up materials.

    • Provide support to interpret new laws and support programs such as water resources and underground storage tanks.

    • Operate government material handling vehicles or equipment (trucks, forklifts, cranes, and hoists) to accomplish ESOH tasks.

    • Maintain, operate, receive, and distribute cylinders from the Central Compressed Gas Cylinder Storage and schedule gas cylinder delivery to laboratories and research cells as required.

    • Provide support to the Integrated Materials Management Offices including inventory, recording, and input of hazardous material data into the current Integrated Materials Management System or other mandated Air Force environmental databases, by supporting proper labeling of containers, cabinets, rooms, and controlled areas containing hazardous material, and by preparing documents and labeling in preparation for disposal of all Hazardous Waste and Solid Waste.

    • Provide support for the management of aboveground and underground fuel storage tanks such as managing fuel deliveries and pickups, performing required inspections, and moving products as needed.

    • Assist with tasks IAW established AFRL/RQ HazMat business practices including, but not limited to, barcoding, data entry (including research of data fields), inventory processes, and report generation.

    • Provide documentation upon request, packaging, labeling, and/or handling required HAZMAT in preparation for disposal.

    • Complete annual company and customer-required training, as required.

    • Complete timesheets daily in an online system according to company policies and procedures.

    • Other duties as assigned.

    Qualifications

    • High school diploma is required.

    • An associate degree is desirable.

    • Ability to obtain Department of Transportation (49 CFR) Hazardous Materials Shipping Certification is required.

    • Class A Commercial Driver's License is preferred.

    • Must be U.S. citizen.

    • Ability to Obtain Public Trust/NACI clearance.

    Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:

    • Support: Large rotating equipment,

    • High pressure air systems,

    • Vacuum systems and

    • specialized research hardware used in conjunction with advanced propulsion, combustion, and energy/power/thermal research.

    • The facility hardware includes mechanical, electrical and electromechanical systems and subsystems associated with large rotating equipment including compressor and drive systems

    • Knowledgeable and proficient in all environmental regulations including OSHA, AFOSH and RCRA as well as the RQ Chemical Hygiene Plan.

    • Must comply with all environmental, safety and occupational health ESOH directives to include of hazardous materials (HazMat) and hazardous waste.

    • Must have ability to follow manufacturer's guidelines and professional recommendations for control of humidity, temperature, cleanliness and materials handling to include all hazardous materials.

    • Strong attention to detail and dedication to superior customer service.

    • Able to operate material handling equipment (trucks, forklifts, cranes, and hoists).

    • Advanced working knowledge of computer software applications, including Microsoft Office Suite, Outlook, Excel, and PowerPoint.

    • Ability to complete work must be accomplished on both a scheduled and unscheduled basis.

    • Ability to pass customer security requirements required.

    • Ability to attend all customer in-person meetings and conferences as required.

    • Ability to self-start and work independently or as a team.

    • Ability to interact verbally and in writing with all levels of staff, government personnel, and management on a professional level.

    • Possess strong problem-solving skills.

    • Ability to work nights and weekends as required.

    • Travel up to 10% as required.
