    Position Overview:

    SLAC National Accelerator Laboratory's Facilities and Operations (F&O) Division manages one of the world's premier science facilities on a 400-acre Stanford site with 150+ structures for the Department of Energy. The site consists of industrial to commercial infrastructure including Clean Room, Laser facilities and Office Spaces. We are a service organization committed to the support and success of the Laboratory's Scientific Mission by providing safe and responsive engineering, construction, operations and maintenance of equipment, buildings, and infrastructure.

    We are seeking a Facilities Engineer with a background in Electrical Engineering to join our Electrical Power Department's Electrical Design Group. Members of this team are responsible for SLAC Power Distribution design modifications and extensions. Under supervision of Electrical Design Group Leader, you will perform power system electrical design engineering. Your responsibilities involve the construction, modification, operation, and maintenance of power distribution systems. SLAC's power distribution system is large and includes the voltage levels 230 kV, 60 kV, 12.47 kV, 4160 V, 2300, 600 V, 480 V, 208/120 V and various DC power systems.

    Your specific responsibilities include:

    • Perform facilities engineering responsibilities involving the planning, design, construction, modification, operation, maintenance, and utilities. May serve as project leader in area of expertise for a major group of ongoing, technically complex projects with large budgets and requiring substantial coordination.

    • Provide assessment, design, and technical recommendations; may include development and implementation.

    • Develop and define scopes of work and estimates.

    • Conduct risk assessments and develop contingency plans on less complex activities.

    • Plan, research, formulate, and prepare project analyses in area of expertise.

    • Prepare, review, and analyze projects' technical plans and specifications for sound design, conformance with design guidelines and other related criteria, and pertinent codes or standards.

    • Perform load calculations for new and existing electrical installations.

    • Perform lighting calculations for new installations and for remodeled spaces.

    • Perform reviews of designs by third party or subcontracted design firms.

    • Provide support for In-House Operations Electricians.

    • Provide analysis and documentation for developing alternate approaches for the purpose of creating or maintaining the most efficient and cost-effective systems.

    • Manage design activity or projects in area of expertise, and/or manage contractor activities.

    • Represent department on specific project teams and review committees.

    • Other duties may also be assigned

    To be successful in this position you will bring:

    • Bachelor's degree in electrical engineering and minimum 5 years of experience managing complex facilities engineering projects and coordinating with other engineering disciplines, mechanical, civil, electrical, fire protection engineers; and building construction practices including but not limited commercial, light industrial building types.

    • Demonstrated design experience on the 480V and 208V level.

    • Familiarity with 12.47kV systems

    • Proficiency using AUTOCAD or REVIT.

    • Demonstrated proficiency with NFPA 70 and 70E.

    • Proficiency with standard desktop applications for word processing, spreadsheets, and presentations.

    • Knowledge of scheduling, project management tools and resources such as Microsoft Project

    • Strong interpersonal skills with the ability to cultivate strong and collaborative relationships inside and outside the organization.

    • Knowledge and proficiency with engineering software related to assignment, such as ETAP

    • Demonstrated project management skills.

    The expected pay range for this position is $99,000 - $131,000 per annum. SLAC National Accelerator Laboratory/Stanford University provides pay ranges representing its good faith estimate of what the university reasonably expects to pay for a position. The pay offered to a selected candidate will be determined based on factors such as (but not limited to) the scope and responsibilities of the position, the qualifications of the selected candidate, departmental budget availability, internal equity, geographic location and external market pay for comparable jobs.
