    Location/Division

    The Materials and Structural Analysis Electron Microscopy (M&SA EM) business enables customers to find meaningful answers to questions that accelerate breakthrough discoveries, increase efficiency, and ultimately change the world. The M&SA EM business designs, manufactures, and supports the broadest range of high-performance microscopy workflows that provide images and answers in the micro-, nano-, and picometer scales.

    How will you make an impact?

    The FSE for the (MSD) is responsible for performing the on-site installation, servicing and repair of multidimensional equipment and systems. Engineers investigate and approve operational quality of system equipment; instruct customers in the operation and maintenance of the system; serve as company liaison with customer on administrative and technical matters for assigned projects; and conduct on-site installations of the full range of Thermo Fisher Scientific electron microscopy systems and their associated options.

    This position is ideal for an experienced service engineer wanting to be involved with a dynamic team and exposed to a constant variety of customer application areas.

    Ideal candidate would live in the Santa Clara, CA area and travel up to 50% in the territory (Santa Clara, San Jose, Bay Area).

    What will you do?

    • Conduct on-site installation of sophisticated equipment and follow testing procedures to ensure accurate working order

    • Conduct on-site scheduled planned maintenance visits

    • Provide problem solving and repair support for customers and other field service personnel

    • Nurture and develop positive working relationships with customers, system users and company personnel

    • Efficiently complete technical training, as required

    • Travel, often on short notice, to customer sites to resolve problems or support other field personnel

    • Complete and submit field service reports

    • Be able to perform PM on assigned tools

    • Partner with colleagues to acquire technical guidance needed to problem-solve systems solutions

    • Provide training and users on system maintenance

    • Provide feedback to product quality teams

    • Provide appropriate input in writing updating and correcting various Thermo Fisher system documentation

    • Provide feedback for various reports including identifying and isolating unique problems with system

    • Act as a subject expert and resource for training

    Minimum Qualifications:

    • Minimum education requirement is an undergraduate degree/Bachelor degree in electronics, physics, engineering, computer science or similar field preferred; or 5 years+ of equivalent combination of education, skills and experience

    • Minimum of 4+ years' experience operating, troubleshooting, repairing and calibrating complex analysis tools such as SEM (~~~) , TEM (~~~) , FIB (~~~) , Prober or similar systems is a plus but not required.

    • Experience with Ultra High Vacuum (UHV) a plus.

    • Experience operating O-scopes, digital multimeter and logical problem solving.

    • Detailed understanding and extensive experience problem solving and repairing ultra-high vacuum and high voltage systems.

    • Ability to partner effectively with customers

    • Excellent interpersonal communication skills; must have a professional working proficiency in English

    • Proven track record to address system and subsystems issues down to component level

    • Literate in MS DOS and Windows software environments

    • Able to read and interpret schematics

    • Familiar with UHV phenomenon and technology

    • Must have ability to acquire a valid passport and travel regionally and internationally as required

    • Must possess a valid driver's license

    • Physical requirements include lifting up to 50 lbs.

    • Have the ability to secure entrance to US Government laboratories and facilities, if required

    Compensation and Benefits

    The hourly pay range estimated for this position based in California is $34.61-$51.93.

    This position may also be eligible to receive a variable annual bonus based on company, team, and/or individual performance results in accordance with company policy. We offer a comprehensive Total Rewards package that our U.S. colleagues and their families can count on, which includes:
