    What You'll Be Doing

    As a Safety Engineer , you will play a key role in ensuring the design, delivery, sustainability, and documentation of existing and new SIS systems. This role requires interface with various departments, including Operations, Maintenance, Turnaround, Reliability, EHSS, Mechanical Integrity and Capital Projects, to align efforts in delivering a robust SIS infrastructure. Primary responsibilities will include but not be limited to:

    • Being knowledgeable with hands-on experience with reliability modeling and prediction methods.

    • Working with other site organizations and engineering disciplines to ensure the reliability and maintainability of new and modified installations meet expectations.

    • Provides guidance regarding availability maintainability and reliability, for equipment is adhered to in maintenance, turnaround and capital projects.

    • Professionally and systematically define, design, develop, monitor and maintain an annual and three-year reliability plan.

    • Develop value-added preventive maintenance tasks effective utilization of predictive and other non- destructive testing methodologies designed to identify and isolate inherent reliability problems.

    • Provide input to a Risk Management Plan that will anticipate reliability-related and non-reliability-related risks that could adversely impact plant operation.

    • Develop engineering solutions to repetitive failures and all other problems that adversely affect plant operations.

    • Provide technical support to production, maintenance and technical personnel

    Ideal Background

    Education: Bachelor or Master of Science degree in Electrical Engineering from an accredited university is required.

    Registration:

    • Certified Reliability Engineer (CRE)

    • TUV Functional Safety Engineer

    • Certified Functional Safety Professional (CFSP)

    • Certified Functional Safety Expert (CFSE)

    • International Society of Automation for Functional Safety (ISA/IEC 61511)

    • Professional Engineer in Control Systems (P.E., CSE)

    Experience: Requires 7+ years of relevant industrial experience in electrical and instrumentation engineering.

    Required Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities

    • Working knowledge and proficient understanding and application of international standards: IEC, NFPA, API, NFPA, NEMA, OSHA

    • Knowledge and experience in utilizing functional safety software: Mangan SLM, Exida exSILentia, Isograph Reliability Workbench

    • Experienced in functional safety methodologies and tools.

    • Lead the development of safety lifecycle deliverables:

    • Safety Requirements Specification (SRS)

    • SIL Verification Calculations

    • Functional Safety Assessment (FSA)

    • Safety Lifecycle Plans

    • Risk GAP Analysis

    • Validation Procedures

    • Proof Test Procedures

    • Proficiency in SIS/SIF Design, architecture and implementation as well as working knowledge and proficient of IEC 61511 functional safety life cycle

    • Perform and oversee the completion of IPL Verifications as required by IEC 61511.

    • Analyze equipment CMMS (Computerized Maintenance Management System) performance data and equipment history to identity repetitive and/or costly failure occurrences.

    • Recognize and develop strategies to eliminate repetitive and major failures.

    • Perform technical review of instrumented systems designs and modifications.

    • Develop pertinent functional safety key performance indicators.

    • Develop, review and maintain equipment specifications as related to purchasing, installation, operation, and maintenance/repairs.

    • Serve as plant and project technical advisor for items related to IEC-61511.

    • Develop SIS Scope documents as necessary for instrumented IPLs.

    • Review project design packages for proper SIF design regarding reliability, application and maintenance.

    • Provide technical support within your discipline to production, maintenance, project, and process engineering groups.

    • Develops applicable policies, standards, best practices and procedures, as needed.

    • Prepares basic specifications detailing performance requirements, specific components, design requirements, applicable design codes, and vendor drawing requirements.

    • Proficient in Electrical one-line diagrams, Control logic function blocks, PLC ladder logic, Boolean logic, Cause & Effects.

    • Proficiency in the following areas: Process instrumentation, control/ESD valves, motor controls, PLC maintenance, troubleshooting, and programming

    • Demonstrates a continuing consciousness of safety in daily activities and implemented in work designed.

    • Serve as a member of cross-functional team to resolve equipment problems, investigate incidents and improve reliability/availability."

    • Meets company quality assurance requirements for personal work assignments.

    • Provide competent coverage for issues concerning site instrument control systems and electrical systems.

    • Strong interpersonal leadership skills are critical due to the requirement for effective communication of complex issues across the organization as well as for mentoring and consensus building. "

    • Awareness of importance of instrumented systems used as Independent Protection Layers (IPLs).

    • Work with Project Engineering to ensure the reliability and maintainability of new and modified installations. "

    • Participates in the development of design and installation specifications along with commissioning plans.

    • Participates in the development of criteria for and evaluation of equipment and technical suppliers and maintenance service providers."

    • Must be self-motivated and possess skills to identify and solve unusual problems.

    • Must be capable to make decisions and recommendations with minimal supervision.

    • Provide technical expertise to Operations and Maintenance personnel.

    • Knowledge of Process Instrumentation Including Process Monitoring Devices, Control Valves, Distributed Control Systems and PLC.

    • Knowledge of preventative maintenance systems and their administration.

    • Must be willing to spend time in the field as required.

    • Strong familiarity with Word Processing, Excel and PowerPoint

    • SAP experience desired

    • Ability to sit, stand, or walk for long periods of time
