    Job Description

    Robert Bosch Automotive Steering LLC is looking for a FEA Engineer at our Plymouth, MI location.

    The steering gear contains highly stressed components, like the housing castings, sensor covers, and tie rod components. The sound design of these components in early development phases is essential. The Housing FEA engineer is specialized in the domain of strength and durability of the housing castings and associated structural components. Their responsibilities and duties include the following:

    • Calculation of strength and durability for aluminum housings and occasional plastic and steel components.

    • Use of ABAQUS and nCode to perform analyses.

    • Review of calculations performed by colleagues in support regions.

    • Preparation of reports and presentations, as well as the communication of results internally and with external customers.

    • Ability to interpret FEA results to make suggestions on structural improvements to components.

    • Ability to understand customer loading requirements to build loading schemes.

    • Participation in frequent meetings with the Automotive Steering teams in USA, Mexico, and Germany

    • Ability to oversee, guide, and work closely with teammates in offices abroad

    • Occasional international travel for training and collaboration required, up to 10%

    Qualifications

    Required

    • Bachelor of Science in Engineering - Mechanical, Civil, or Structural

    • 2+ years work experience in a relevant automotive field

    • 5+ years experience with ABAQUS or other comparable simulation platforms required

    • 5+ years experience with nCode or other comparable fatigue software required

    • Basic Knowledge of machine element design

    • General knowledge of FEA simulation methods, principals, and best practices

    • Basic understanding of fatigue damage accumulation

    • Ability to understand and work with material stress-strain curves and S-N curves

    • Occasional international travel for training and collaboration required, up to 10%

    Preferred

    • Master of Science in Engineering or related technical field

    • Experience with topology optimization

    • Competent written and oral English communication skills

    • Strong organization and presentation skills

    • Strong technical writing and discussion skills

    • Exposure to MATLAB preferred

    • Python scripting experience preferred
