  • GENERAL PURPOSE

    The Information Security Engineer I participates in and contributes to multiple concurrent projects aimed at improving the security configurations for the University, Medical Center and affiliates. This position provides routine security application administration and endpoint security administration for 40,000+ workstations and 4,000+ servers. Participates in an on-call support rotation as required.

    RESPONSIBILITIES:

    • Participates in SCCM application packaging and deployments, antivirus administration, Active Directory / Group Policy administration.Follows established procedures to apply service-oriented security architecture principles to meet organization's confidentiality, integrity and availability requirements. Implements specific cybersecurity countermeasures for systems and/or applications. Uses software-based computer protection tools (e.g., software firewalls, antivirus software, anti-spyware).

    • Follows established monthly patching process, including patch testing, deployments, metric tracking and compliance efforts. Resolves vulnerabilities centrally as assigned.

    • Follows established procedures to provide support for IT administrators across various environments and disciplines. Troubleshoots hardware/software interface and interoperability problems.Escalates complex issues to senior team members.

    • Participates in ongoing support and maintenance. Follows established procedures to verify that minimum security requirements are in place for all applications.

    • Follows established procedures for change and code management. Ensures supporting technical documentation is maintained. Follows established procedures to assist with ensuring that staff and departments operate within regulatory guidelines and/or standards while ensuring a high level of creativity.

    QUALIFICATIONS:

    • Bachelor's degree in related discipline such as Computer Science, Business, Mathematics, Statistics, Science or Engineering required

    • 2 years of related experience required

    • or equivalent combination of education and experience required

    • Experience in higher education or healthcare IT preferred

    • Excellent verbal and written communication skills required

    • Participation in on-call rotation required

    • Knowledge of the basic operation of computers, server and client operating systems and systems administration concepts preferred

    • Knowledge of operating system command-line tools preferred

    • Skill in diagnosing connectivity problems. Skill in conducting research for troubleshooting novel client-level problems and correcting physical and technical problems that impact system/server performance preferred

    • Skill in conducting system/server planning, management and maintenance preferred

    • Strong analytical mindset, able to breakdown a problem and determine the root cause preferred

    • Ability to collaborate effectively with others and ensure customer satisfaction and appropriate follow-through in all interactions preferred

    • Ability to function effectively in a dynamic, fast-paced environment preferred

    Pay Range

    Pay Range: $30.06 - $45.08 Hourly

    The referenced pay range represents the minimum and maximum compensation for this job. Individual annual salaries/hourly rates will be set within the job's compensation range, and will be determined by considering factors including, but not limited to, market data, education, experience, qualifications, expertise of the individual, and internal equity considerations.
