    Middle River Aerostructure Systems is a world-leading manufacturer of thrust reversers (the braking system on a jet engine), engine nacelle components and specialized aerostructures.     Role Summary/Purpose

    The Lead Aero-Thermal Engineer is responsible for contributing to and leading a team to develop thermal management solutions for nacelles compartments and conduct aero/thermal analyses for fire safety and certification of Nacelle structures for development and legacy programs. Activities are coordinated cross-functionally with functions such as design, system and testing and with both the Middle River Aerostructure Systems and global engineering teams.

    Essential Responsibilities

    In this role, you will be responsible for work that is less defined in scope, utilize your experience or expertise to solve problems, develop and execute objectives for self and others, and have the ability to effect short-term and some long-term business goals.

    In addition, you will:

    • Provide leadership and technical direction to personnel supporting the assigned project

    • Design and analyze ventilation and drainage solutions for nacelle inlet, fan cowl and core cowl compartments

    • Develop flow and heat transfer models to support certification requirements for the design of nacelle components

    • Actively contribute in developing state-of-the-art analyses techniques for thermal design and follow the New Product Introduction (NPI) process in project execution

    • Execute the design, analysis, or evaluation of assigned projects using sound engineering principles and adhering to business standards, practices, procedures, and product / program requirements

    • Formulate and implement plans to achieve technical requirements, schedules and contract commitments and to provide timely communications on significant issues or developments

    • Participate as a presenter or reviewer in technical and program reviews to communicate results of technical data generated

    • Document technical data generated for the assigned projects and/or tasks consistent with engineering policies and procedures


    • Bachelor's Degree in Mechanical or Aerospace Engineering from an accredited College or University.

    • Minimum of 5 year experience working as a thermal and/or CFD analyst involved in design & analysis of complex mechanical systems and components using a range of standard hand calculations and computer methods

    • Demonstrated track record of technical accomplishment with positive business impact

    Desired Characteristics

    • Master's Degree in Engineering

    • Ability to confidently undertake aero / thermal analysis, and produce clear, concise reports and other documentation of appropriate quality.

    • Ability to assess issues and problems under pressure and to work with other team members to drive solutions and closure plans

    • Strong thermal system design & analytical background that can be applied for nacelle related products

    • Strong oral and written communication skills

    • Strong interpersonal and leadership skills

    • Effective in contributing in a structured, cross functional team work environment with all levels of the organization and external customers.
