    The Product & Data Engineering team is responsible for end-to-end development for Disney's world-class consumer-facing products, including streaming platforms Disney+, Hulu, and ESPN+, and digital products & experiences across ESPN, Marvel, Disney Studios, National Geographic, and ABC News. The team drives innovation at scale for hundreds of millions of consumers around the world across Apple, Android, Smart TVs, game consoles, and the web, with our platforms powering core experiences like personalization, search, messaging, and data.

    We are looking for a Lead Data Engineer to design, augment and elevate the metrics used to measure our consumer facing search, recommendations, promotions, and messaging experiences. You will be embedded with the Engineering teams that build these experiences and be a thought and data partner throughout the product development lifecycle to ensure the right metrics are designed and engineered for each initiative. You will build, operationalize, interpret, and analyze complex data sets to drive success for each of these domains.

    You will leverage workflow scheduling applications and data ingestion infrastructure that powers the analytics and data science behind our flagship streaming applications - Disney+, Hulu, ESPN+, and Star+.

    Responsibilities:

    • Understand the product and consumer experience being built and propose metrics or data that would be essential to measure success.

    • Partner with the engineering team to ensure underlying data is made available to generate the metrics needed.

    • Partner with the data teams and build appropriate jobs and workflows to operationalize the data sets and metrics.

    • Maintain software engineering and architecture best practices and standards within the team and wider organization, along with a culture of quality, innovation, and experimentation.

    • Evangelize data driven decisions; identify new use cases.

    Basic Qualifications:

    • Bachelor's degree in computer science, Information Systems, Software, Electrical, or Electronics Engineer, or comparable field of study, and/or equivalent work experience.

    • 7+ years of relevant professional experience.

    • Experience with Data Engineering practices and tools (ETL, Snowflake, Spark).

    • Experience with Python and Airflow (or similar).

    • Self-learner who can find the best tool/technology to get the job done.

    • Ability to dive deep into technical components as well as understand the overall systems architecture.

    • Excellent written and verbal communication skills, ability to simplify and synthesize complex constructs.

    Preferred Qualifications:

    • Experience driving success of consumer facing products.

    The hiring range for this position in Santa Monica / Glendale / Bristol is $149,300 to $200,200 per year, in NY / Seattle is $156,300 to $209,600 and in San Francisco is $163,500 to $219,200 per year. The base pay actually offered will take into account internal equity and also may vary depending on the candidate's geographic region, job-related knowledge, skills, and experience among other factors. A bonus and/or long-term incentive units may be provided as part of the compensation package, in addition to the full range of medical, financial, and/or other benefits, dependent on the level and position offered.
