    This Opportunity

    WSP is seeking a Lead Consultant Water Resources Scientist or Engineer to help manage our growing storm water consulting projects in San Diego, CA. Bachelor's Degree in natural or physical sciences or related engineering field is required, with a minimum of 7 years of experience in surface water quality monitoring or a closely related field. The ideal candidate will help maintain and grow our environmental consulting business and be passionate about the monitoring and implementation aspects of storm water management, TMDLs, indicator bacteria, water quality resources, environmental permitting, and municipal, commercial and industrial NPDES compliance. Specifically, the ideal candidate should have experience in managing moderately complex stormwater monitoring projects. Successful candidates will have the ability and desire to implement the technical aspects of stormwater monitoring as well as provide the organizational and logistics oversight required for successful stormwater project management. The ideal candidate should have a comprehensive understanding of municipal MS4 permitting and similar water quality regulations, strong attention to detail and organizational skills, and comprehensive experience in generating high-quality data and reporting work products for clients.     Your Impact

    • Manage stormwater monitoring projects of varying size, including ensuring that project deliverables are met, quality is upheld, and schedule and budget expectations are adhered to

    • Provide technical leadership to ensure high quality stormwater project implementation

    • Lead field work and/or travel to project(s) as needed for the execution of project goals

    • Provide oversight, QA/QC, and mentoring of junior staff in technical aspects of monitoring implementation

    • Recruit and supervise junior staff: assign, direct, and evaluate their work

    • Coordinate and communicate project schedules and staffing requirements with other project managers

    • Maintain relationships with key client project managers

    • Participate with group leadership in developing strategic plan for Southern California

    • Support proposal preparation work and technical work scope development

    Who You Are

    Required Qualifications

    • B.S. in Water Resources Engineering or Science (or related field)

    • 7-10 years relevant experience in the stormwater or surface water monitoring field, preferably in municipal permit compliance or a closely related area

    • Technical expertise in stormwater or surface water sample and data collection

    • Proven track record managing moderately complex stormwater or surface water monitoring projects and/or programs

    • Demonstrated ability to successfully track and meet budgets and schedules

    • Excellent verbal and written communication skills

    • Ability to work with, mentor, and direct junior engineers, scientists, and technicians

    Preferred Qualifications:

    • Experience in directly supervising or managing staff (or fulfilling a similar leadership role)

    • Knowledge of local (southern California) water resource market

    • M.S. in Water Resources/Environmental Science (or related field)

    Compensation

    Expected Salary (all locations): $89,100-$125,000

    WSP USA is providing the compensation range that the company in good faith believes it might pay and offer for this position, based on the successful applicant's education, experience, knowledge, skills, abilities in addition to internal equity and specific geographic location. WSP USA reserves the right to ultimately pay more or less than the posted range and offer additional benefits and other compensation, depending on circumstances not related to an applicant's sex or other status protected by local, state, and/or federal law.
