    The measurement scientist is affiliated with the Skills for the Future and Business Excellence group in ETS Research. The measurement scientist is expected to lead and contribute to conceptualizing, proposing, obtaining funding for, and directing projects in skills assessment and research in higher education and workforce settings.

    Typical projects may include (1) Applied research projects that would support current ETS assessment/learning products used in higher education, workforce, and education-workforce transition, including defining complex skills, identifying indicators of measures, task prototyping, data analysis, and validation studies; (2) Working in cross-divisional teams and with external partners in fundraising projects; (3) Development projects that could help provide solutions to critical issues in higher education and the workforce with the ultimate goal of improving the efficiency and quality of practices (i.e., learning and assessment).

    The measurement scientist is also expected to

    • Generate or contribute new knowledge or capabilities and their applications to existing and new ETS products and services.

    • Document and disseminate the results of research and/or development projects through publication, presentation, and client engagement.

    • Actively seek input from collaboration with peers.

    • Serve as a reviewer of peers' work.

    • Actively seek mentoring from colleagues and develop a continuing mentoring relationship.

    • Assist more senior scientific staff in consulting on ETS products, Research management, or other ETS management concerns.

    • Develop external professional relationships and work to cultivate identity.

    • Become a member and regular presenter at the annual meetings of one or more organizations substantively related to the work of ETS.

    EDUCATION

    A candidate with a Ph.D. in industrial/organizational psychology is preferred. A candidate with a Ph. D. in other related disciplines, such as organizational behavior, personality psychology, cognitive psychology, and quantitative psychology, may also be considered.

    EXPERIENCE

    Three years' experience in one or more areas listed below:

    • Experience in developing and validating assessments used in higher education or workforce settings, including defining durable skills for educational and workforce applications, developing assessments using situational judgment tests, forced-choice, behaviorally anchored rating scales, and other innovative methods to measure these skills.

    • Experience in designing, developing, and validating learning tools with actionable feedback for related skills and competencies.

    • Experience in leading research around talent upskilling and reskilling, student success KPIs in higher education, and education-to-career pathways.

    OTHER SKILLS/EXPERIENCE

    Preferred candidates are expected to possess several of the following qualifications, if not all.

    • Strong knowledge of quantitative and psychometric principles relevant to developing and validating new assessments.

    • Willingness and ability to rapidly learn and apply new knowledge and skills relevant to research and practice in the higher education and workforce.

    • Strong communication skills in speaking and writing, strong collaboration skills

    The following experience is desirable.

    • Experience with new product development and prototyping.

    • Experience in addressing equity and fairness concerns in education and workforce settings.

    • Experience in developing proposals and implementing research projects funded by federal, foundation, or other funders and clients.

    • Experience in using AI tools to extract skills and create LER credentials or badges
