    Position Title : Mechanical Engineer I

    OPEN UNTIL FILLED

    Department/Location: Office of Chief Ops Officer; Pioneer Generation Station / Williston, ND

    Position Purpose:

    This position assists with evaluating, selecting, and applying standard engineering techniques, procedures, and criteria using judgment in making minor adaptations and modifications on power plant system components to improve plant reliability, safety, and performance, and assists in monitoring proper water chemistry. Work assignments are varied and somewhat difficult in character. Assignments require originality and ingenuity.

    Essential Functions:

    • Assist with engineering studies to improve plant performance, safety, and reliability.

    • Assist in collecting equipment performance data and recording vibration data.

    • Assist with balancing rotating equipment.

    • Assist with performance of maintenance planning and warehouse functions.

    • During unit outages, assist with inspections of plant equipment/systems and coordination of necessary repairs.

    • Assist with inputting maintenance and outage repair data for all plant equipment into the work management and document management software programs.

    • Monitor water chemistry for water systems.

    • Update and maintain the drawing database by capturing drawing changes.

    • Assist with mechanical engineering needs at Lonesome Creek and Culbertson Generation stations.

    • Prepare generation reports.

    • Assist with compliance requirements.

    Qualifications:

    • Four-year degree from an Engineering Accreditation Commission/Accreditation Board for Engineering and Technology (EAC/ABET) accredited mechanical engineering program.

    • Technical writing skills and familiarity with spreadsheet and database computer programs

    • Able to demonstrate effective written and verbal communications skills.

    • Proficient in Microsoft Word, Outlook and Excel.

    • A valid driver's license.

    • Resume required.

    Typical Physical/Mental/Environmental Demands:

    This position requires frequent sitting and lifting/carrying up to 25 pounds; and occasional standing/walking, bending/reaching, kneeling, climbing, crawling, pushing/pulling up to 15 pounds and lifting/carrying up to 50 pounds. This position requires use of keyboard/computer and occasionally working at heights up to 250 feet, which requires the use of safety equipment, including a harness, in accordance with ANSI Z359 standards. This position requires good finger dexterity, hand coordination, good hearing and good vision. The incumbent may occasionally work in confined spaces, and be exposed to extreme heat/cold, dirt, fumes, chemicals, vibration, and noise. Tools/equipment used include floating pick scaffolding, vibration testing equipment, velocity measuring probes, electronic thickness testers, slag hammer, computer equipment, and surveying equipment. The incumbent must be able to analyze data/reports, conduct research, implement recommendations, coordinate projects, develop plans, present information to others, and work under pressure to complete assignments. This position must be respirator qualified.
