    Opportunity

    The Senior Staff Engineer - Complete project responsibilities for design, specification, review and development of mechanical equipment or systems, and for design of new and existing facilities. The focus is around building mechanical infrastructure such as steam, cooling water, compressed air, fire protection water, natural gas, LPG, plumbing, wastewater, and other thermal-fluids that support manufacturing processes. It will involve making engineering studies, calculations, and design specifications, and providing project estimate, detail design, procurement, installation, acceptance tests, and performance audits. Use of project management procedures will be required to set targets, measure progress, and report status.

    This position and their engineering team is responsible for developing feasibility studies, creating project timelines, developing plans and specifications, creating cost estimates, installing building systems, developing punch lists, troubleshooting, and project close-out. These functions are on a global scale and the engineer is accountable for construction budgets. Typically, these budgets are in excess of $5,000,000USD. International travel to remote locations in developing countries is required.

    This position will mentor other Mechanical Engineering staff to assure correct application of state-of-the-art technology.

    Ability to create and communicate complex engineering concepts/proposals to various levels of management and external business/government contacts.

    Assist other Operations Support (OS) departments (Environment Health & Safety, Global Maintenance, Kohler Operating System, and Manufacturing Systems Engineering) to advance applicable programs.

    Specific Responsibilities

    Supervision

    • Provide on-site mechanical engineering expertise and project management of mechanical installation at new and existing Kohler facilities worldwide.

    • Direct the work of the team members within Construction Engineering Management Department.Investigates assigned problems recommends required engineering resources to the Team Leader or Project Manager.

    • Mentors junior members of the Mechanical Engineering staff.

    Consulting

    • Investigates project needs to define direction of effort.

    • Ability to review and interpret domestic and international Codes and Standards.

    • Develops feasibility and design studies.

    • Conveys preliminary solutions, cost and time estimates to appropriate personnel.

    Design/Engineering

    • Reviews potential solutions, performs risk analysis and provides alternatives.

    • Uses sound engineering practices to develop a detailed engineering solution.

    • Experience with National Fire Protection Code (NFPA) and FM Global guidelines is required.

    • Coordinates the efforts of the various departmental disciplines and other non-company personnel to develop the project solution.

    • Contacts vendors and manufacturers to obtain information on, and prices of, equipment.

    • Perform studies and calculations for the installation or renovation of mechanical systems. Obtain required design data from existing systems or facilities to verify performance parameters and system compatibility.

    • Develops detailed engineering specifications and CAD drawings, obtains bids and prepares ACT's (Authorized Corporate Transaction) when appropriate.

    • Estimates project execution costs of complete projects.

    • Estimate project savings based on defined project.Cost savings to include both direct and cost avoidance savings associated with project execution.

    • Develops project schedules and workflow Gant Charts. Work with procurement department to obtain necessary equipment.

    • Expertise in sustainable designs and understands Net Zero Design principles for both water and energy.

    • Maintains appropriate records.

    Installation

    • Issues work orders/purchase orders to the various crafts/contractors for fabrication and installation.

    • Provide on-site mechanical engineering expertise and project management of mechanical installation at new and existing Kohler facilities in worldwide.

    • Evaluates and recommends approval of payment submitted for work on the project.

    • Manages project mechanical engineering expenditures to meet project budget.

    • Coordinate mechanical installations with the work of other disciplines, design institutes, outside consultants, and contractors engaged in support of Kohler Co. projects.

    • Evaluate quotes on equipment and construction to obtain the best equipment and services available.

    • Work with other engineering disciplines to identify and correct installation interferences and all codes and regulations. Create and administer field change orders.

    • Coordinate the efforts of installation technicians and mechanics engaged in mechanical system installation and modification to ensure a cost effective and timely completion. Commission new systems to ensure operational requirements are satisfied.

    • Assist in resolving open issues and start-up of plant systems.

    • Preparation of punch lists upon completion of projects.

    • Provide accurate as built drawings to Kohler WI engineering office.

    • Maintains the appropriate records.

    Secondary Support

    • Troubleshoots as required.

    • Issues complete set of drawings recommended spare parts lists, operating procedures and manuals to Maintenance and Production departments.Collect and maintain all equipment manuals and other records as appropriate.

    • Maintains the appropriate records.

    Skills/Requirements

    • A BS Degree in Mechanical or Fire Protection Engineering, with a minimum of ten years of engineering and new construction experience. Project management experience is beneficial.

    • Experience with National Fire Protection Code (NFPA) guidelines is required.

    • Registered Professional Engineer is beneficial.

    • Able to obtain a passport for international travel.

    • Familiarity with AutoCAD, Bluebeam, and Revit, but need not be proficient.

    The salary range for this position is $113,000 - $143,950. The specific salary offered to a candidate may be influenced by a variety of factors including the candidate's experience, their education, and the work location. Available benefits include medical, dental, vision & 401k.
