Your mission is our mission.
We're invested in you and your success. Everything we do - whether Aerospace, Defense, Intelligence, Information Technology, Cybersecurity, Nuclear, Automotive, or Telecommunications - is more than just a project. It's our challenge as human beings, too. That's why we bring a thoughtful and collaborative approach to every one of our partnerships.
It's our promise to challenge the status quo as we redefine how to solve the world's greatest challenges, and transform big ideas into intelligent solutions for a more connected, sustainable world.
Design your career with a company that inspires and empowers you to deliver your best work so you can evolve, grow and succeed -today and into tomorrow.
A mechanical engineer in the Rapid Solutions division at Jacobs applies knowledge in 3D CAD design, GD&T, heat transfer, structural mechanics, material properties, and other engineering design principles to various electronics packaging projects. The microelectronics and supporting structure designed must function in harsh environments produced by airplanes, satellites, ships, and automobiles in locations around the world. In conjunction, they must withstand temperature extremes, thermal shock, vibration, structural shock, moisture, and corrosion.
As a mechanical engineering intern, you will learn how to design for these challenging conditions, while gaining a fundamental understanding of printed circuit board (PCB) design, RF engineering, and a variety of fabrication and manufacturing processes. All activities will be designed to give the intern a full understanding of the engineering design lifecycle and insight into the role that mechanical engineers play at Jacobs. Each intern will be paired with a mentor of the same discipline, to increase their educational experience.
3D CAD design and drafting of mechanical/electrical components and assemblies.
Performing engineering analyses: thermal, structural, tolerance stack-ups.
Fabricating, assembling and qualifying 1st article engineering prototypes.
Designing and conducting laboratory experiments to evaluate material selections and/or advanced electronic packaging manufacturing processes.
Performing vendor research, selection, and interface.
Here's What You'll Need:
Must be willing and able to obtain a security clearance.
Pursing a Bachelors (2nd year or above) or Masters degree in one of the following disciplines: Mechanical Engineering, Manufacturing Engineering, Materials Science Engineering.
Cumulative GPA > 3.0/4.0.
Experience in designing and carrying out experiments (e.g. undergraduate/graduate research, lab coursework).
Machine design and drafting experience.
3D Computer-Aided-Design (CAD) experience (i.e. Solidworks).
Hands-on manufacturing experience (e.g. machining, soldering, etc).
Good writing, communication, and interpersonal skills.
