Los Alamos National LaboratoryLos Alamos, NM 87544

    Job #2636250063

  • What You Will Do

Jumpstart your career at one of the most innovative and creative multidisciplinary research institutions engaged in strategic science on behalf of national security. The work we do at Los Alamos National Laboratory (LANL) matters to the nation and to the world!

The Computational Physics and Methods Group (CCS-2) in the Computer, Computational and Statistical Sciences Division at LANL is recruiting a highly motivated post-doctoral research associate to join our Truchas software team. CCS-2 conducts application-focused methods research across a wide variety of computational physics areas including astrophysics, climate science, radiation transport, shock hydrodynamics, turbulent flows and machine learning and develops software for high-performance computing environments. The Truchas team in particular provides subject matter expertise and production software products in the areas of advanced manufacturing modeling and numerical methods for heat transfer, electromagnetic heating, phase change, fluid dynamics, and solid mechanics.

The successful applicant will work on a multidisciplinary team in a collaborative environment developing computational models for manufacturing that run on the latest high-performance computers. In collaboration with their future mentor, they will propose a well-defined research plan that will allow them to develop new skills and knowledge and produce computational methods and results that can be published in the scientific literature and presented at technical conferences.
