    Job Summary

    The Advanced Products and Solutions division of Raytheon is seeking an Optical Engineer II to join our Manufacture Engineering team to support and lead the efforts to maintain test equipment for Electro-Optical/Infrared(EO/IR) products in a factory production environment. Additionally, this person will be involved with design analysis and changes to both the test equipment as well as the products themselves during productionization efforts and general root cause investigations. The role aims to generate a manufacturing process that can be streamlined and executed with minimal interruptions, this expectation resides with both assembly manufacturing and testing capabilities. This individual must be self-motivated and will work with a cross functional team including engineering, factory management, program management, assembly, and test.

    Work will often be performed in an ISO7 to ISO5 cleanroom infrastructure environment where most of the EO/IR production efforts occur. This role will also include performing interferometry measurements and analyses to assist in efforts such as troubleshooting, investigations, specification analysis, etc.

    The work assignment will be manufacturing support of the EO/IR systems produced in the McKinney, TX Consolidated Manufacturing Center. This is a first shift position, and standard workdays will be Monday through Friday. There will also be required weekend work approximately one day a month in support of a weekend rotation schedule.

    Responsibilities to Anticipate

    Support daily factory needs, and seek process improvements that can reduce cost, rework frequencies and HPU to streamline factory flow.

    Oversee day to day prioritization of optical test equipment needs, including daily communication with cross functional leadership.

    Carrying out appointed tasks with minimal supervision.

    Engage with supplier(s) for test equipment development and material qualification.

    Investigate failure trends for root cause and implementation of corrective actions.

    Perform optical evaluation such as stray light analyses on the current and future product lines.

    Basic Qualifications

    • Typically requires a Bachelor's in science, Technology, Engineering, or Mathematics (STEM) and minimum 2 years of prior relevant experience.

    • The ability to obtain and maintain a U.S. government issued security clearance is required. U.S. citizenship is required, as only U.S. citizens are eligible for a security clearance.

    Preferred Qualifications

    • Experience in physically performing optical alignments.

    • Experience setting up and maintaining optical test equipment including calibration efforts.

    • Experience in troubleshooting test equipment issues.

    • Experience with Design of Experiment (DOE) troubleshooting skills.

    • Experience with optical supplier engagement.

    • Experience in multi-discipline collaboration to mitigate systemic issues.

    • Experience in handling high-dollar optical components.

    • Strong technical writing skills

    • Demonstrated knowledge of optical performance in EO/IR system

    • Demonstrated abilities to execute impactful improvements within rapid time window.

    • Optical and mechanical properties acumen, and demonstrated experiences with MIL-STD, ASTM, F-spec, and shop processes.

    • Background knowledge on testing instrumentation, such as with collimators, labsphere, targets and power meters.

    • Familiar with IR spectrometer

    • Familiar with Creo, Matlab, Zemax, CodeV

    • Proficiency in streamline generation of procedures and instructions.

    The salary range for this role is 64,000 USD - 128,000 USD. The salary range provided is a good faith estimate representative of all experience levels. RTX considers several factors when extending an offer, including but not limited to, the role, function and associated responsibilities, a candidate's work experience, location, education/training, and key skills.
