    Key Responsibilities:

    United's Technical Operations team is one of the largest Maintenance, Repair, and Overhaul (MRO) organizations in the world. The digital solutions we deliver solve complex challenges to help our operation work more efficiently every day.

    This Principal Architect role will play a critical part in our Core MRO System Replacement program - an exciting multi-year effort to modernize and transform our most critical Tech Ops platforms. This Principal Architect will lead product technical evaluation, implementation approach, integration strategy, and future state architecture definition, working hand-in-hand with other senior leaders on this initiative. This role will require understanding and conceptualization of both current-state as well as future-state architecture. The ideal candidate is a strong technical leader who can establish a technical vision, effectively balance trade-offs, implement solutions, and coach and develop junior team members. This position will collaborate extensively with Tech Ops as well as Digital Technology teams.

    • Act as overall technical lead and single point of contact for the overall MRO replacement program

    • Partner with other Principal Architects and Developers within Tech Ops and across the enterprise on domain-specific topics, including data replication, messaging, integration technologies, DevOps, services, UI/mobile, and others.

    • Coach junior team members, including supporting their technical and professional development

    • Provide sound technical decision-making and guidance to deliver sustainable, high-quality products.

    • Be a trusted leader with vision with business partners to create impactful products that delight your customers.

    • Support product evaluation efforts by analyzing, evaluating, and leading proofs-of-concept to support overall program decision making

    • Understand current-state architecture across the Tech Ops ecosystem

    • Define the future-state architecture post-MRO implementation

    • Define migration strategies, including bridging solutions and temporary integrations to support phased product implementation

    • Develop, implement, and monitor effective long-range and tactical plans as needed in each phase of the project, including road-mapping, release planning, sprint planning and other plans as needed

    • Support estimation of project costs through all phases of the project including analysis, development, integration, testing, deployment

    • Engage with technical collaborators to ensure alignment with enterprise standards, architecture best practices, and key integrations

    • Engage with application teams to understand technical landscape, integrations, and dependencies.

    Qualifications

    What's needed to succeed (Minimum Qualifications):

    • Bachelor's degree

    • Computer Science, Mathematics, Information Systems or other related field

    • 7+ years of related work experience

    • 3+ years of experience as an architect working with off-the-shelf and internally developed applications

    • Strong working knowledge of one or more of the following: .Net, Java, or other modern object oriented language(s)

    • Strong working knowledge of Rest API development and microservices development patterns

    • Working knowledge with modern software development lifecycles and iterative development and deployment

    • Working knowledge of application integration patterns in a highly-distributed architecture

    • Working knowledge of AWS or Azure platforms

    • Experience defining and implementing complex application architectures

    • Experience with highly-scalable, real-time, or highly regulated applications

    • Experience with performance tuning and optimization

    What will help you propel from the pack (Preferred Qualifications):

    • Airline or MRO experience is a plus

    • Experience in large application modernization projects

    • AWS experience preferred
