As an Edwards Lifesciences' Advanced Technology R&D Team member, you will employ your talents and passions to innovate novel therapies to combat the overwhelming structural heart failure epidemic. You will join a dedicated team of engineers focused on generating nitinol-based implants. The environment is fast-paced, collaborative, and technically challenging. We seek a Principal Engineer to provide design expertise for developing and solving structural mechanics and physiological system dynamics problems using advanced finite element analysis (FEA) models and advanced engineering simulation packages.     How you will make an impact:

    • Utilize advanced knowledge and expertise in computational modeling (FEA) to advance innovation and develop solutions that satisfy project and R&D requirements.

    • Provide novel and innovative solutions for structural heart and medical implant device modeling and a deep understanding of the human cardiovascular system.

    • Advanced the development of workflows and methodologies for evaluating medical implants using a diverse suite of simulation tools.

    • Interface with other engineers in various cross-functional teams to gather input to develop computational models.

    • Collaborating with clinical engineering and physician training partners who deeply understand cardiovascular anatomy and structural heart therapy in pre-clinical and clinical environments.

    • Interface with cross-functional teams (Manufacturing, Quality, and Regulatory) to ensure compliance with internal and regulatory policies and standards.

    • Proactively identify issues, achieve resolution, and resolve problems of highly significant complexity in designing and testing parts, components, and subsystems.

    • Support project teams by providing engineering knowledge and expertise to the design and development of new products.

    • Oversee R&D support tasks while mentoring and guiding engineers on design.

    • Support the design, optimization, testing, and manufacturing of implantable medical devices. This includes design requirement development, generating design concepts and prototypes, experimental testing, data analysis, and conducting pre-clinical evaluations.

    • Develop and manage work plans and timelines within the scope of assigned projects.

    What you'll need:

    • Bachelor's Degree in Engineering or Scientific field and a minimum of 6 years experience, including either industry or industry/education is required or

    • Master's Degree or equivalent in Engineering or Scientific field and a minimum of 5 years experience, including either industry or industry/education is required or

    • Ph.D. or equivalent in Engineering or Scientific field and a minimum of 2 years experience, including either industry or industry/education is required

    • 3+ years of experience analyzing mechanical components in a medical device industry

    • Highly experienced in FEA modeling and analyses: Abaqus experience

    • Familiarity with human heart anatomy and physiology and the types, symptoms, causes, and treatments of structural heart disease.

    What else we look for:

    • Familiarity and experience with nitinol material, implant devices, and modeling preferred.

    • Strong mechanical aptitude with proven ability to apply engineering knowledge and judgment to solve complex engineering problems.

    • Identify and implement practical solutions based on device requirements and project timelines.

    • Adaptable and capable of working in dynamic and ambiguous environments.

    • Desire and willingness to remain in a technical role for at least 3 years.

    For California, the base pay range for this position is $115,000 to $163,000 (highly experienced). The pay for the successful candidate will depend on various factors (e.g., qualifications, education, prior experience).
