    Job Overview:

    McDermott is looking for an experienced Automation/Control System Lead Engineer to lead the automation scope on projects and grow with the company. The automation scope includes systems such as DCS, SIS, FGS, and their subsystems, and similar plant control systems. The Automation Lead Engineer will report to the project Lead I&C Engineer and be responsible for completing the automation design and engineering activities from system inception to testing and commissioning. The Automation Lead Engineer will be required to direct other engineers and designers, both within the home office and support offices, in the completion of the automation scope, as well as interface with Clients and Suppliers. For FEEDs and small projects, the Automation Lead Engineer may be required to develop the automation deliverables themselves and complete the scope with minimal assistance.

    Key Tasks and Responsibilities:

    • Develop basis of design documents such as philosophies, specifications, and architectural diagrams

    • Develop building layouts for automation equipment

    • Provide direction to employees on the proper development of automation deliverables such as I/O Lists, Alarm Lists, C&Es, Control Narratives, SIL Verification, etc. Review the documents for accuracy and quality

    • May be called upon to prepare or complete some of the automation deliverables on small projects

    • Work with Process HSE team to manage the ISA / IEC 61511 Safety Life Cycle, along with documentation requirements

    • Attend studies and reviews such as HAZOP, LOPA, FSA, Alarm Rationalization

    • Develop automation requisitioning documentation, technical bid evaluations, and review supplier documents

    • Attend Factory Acceptance Testing and Site Acceptance Testing for control systems

    • Work with project teams, Clients, and Suppliers to resolve automation technical issues

    Essential Qualifications and Education:

    • 15 -20 years in the oil and gas industry working as an automation engineer

    • Must have served as the Lead Automation Engineer on at least one medium to large size project ($500 Million+)

    • Detailed knowledge of current automation technologies for DCS, SIS, FGS, including remote I/O

    • Knowledge of automation networking, with both fiber and copper media

    • Familiar with industry codes and standards

    • Experience inspecting control systems both at factory and in field for adherence to project specifications

    • Experience working with Clients and Suppliers to resolve control system technical issues

    • Able to work in team environment with company, Suppliers, and Clients, including remote teams in other countries

    • Experience using MS Office Suite (MS Word, MS Excel)

    • Bachelor's Degree in an engineering discipline

    Preferred Qualifications and Education:

    • Experience with Cyber Security

    • Experience using SmartPlant Instrumentation

    • Experience with trouble-shooting network issues between control systems and 3 rd party systems such as PLCs
