    What You'll Be Doing

    The Process Engineering Leader is generally responsible for supervision and technical direction over a team of Process Design Engineers and Process Engineering Interns/Co-ops/designers for an office or region. The Process Engineering Leader is responsible for ensuring that the process engineering deliverables and services are accomplished on time, within budget and meeting quality expectations for all projects supported by the Process Team under his or her supervision. Duties will include all administrative functions that are required to allow the Process Engineering Team to operate effectively and efficiently. Duties may also include performing advanced engineering work and serving as a technical specialist for complex engineering assignments. Work at this level requires extensive progressive experience in chemical/ biochemical/ refining and process design engineering and involves an understanding of project controls for cost, schedule and quality of projects. The goal of the Process Engineering Team is to provide engineering services that are effective, efficient, cost competitive, and of high quality. The work associated with this position will be performed under minimal supervision. Primary responsibilities will include but not be limited to the following:

    • Promote the culture of working safely and applying safety related concepts into process design.

    • Ensure that evaluations are completed on an annual basis for the Process Engineers.

    • Evaluate project schedules and process engineering manpower requirements. Adjust workloads to ensure a relatively even distribution of work for the Process Team.

    • Ensure that all process engineering deliverables are reviewed and approved internally prior to issue.

    • Ensure that professional services and construction estimates are validated at the onset of projects and tracking changes as the project progresses.

    • Ensure that engineering activities such as equipment specifications, material procurement specifications, calculations, drawings, studies, evaluations, technical reviews, and estimates meet Hargrove and Client requirements.

    • Ensure that professional service estimates are produced in accordance with Hargrove standards for project deliverables, project studies, change notices and for the development of new work through proposal efforts.

    • Ensure that conceptual designs and studies are developed to determine the simplest, most efficient approach to solving engineering tasks for the Client.

    • Ensure that Lead Engineers are establishing the design criteria, incorporating Client requirements, estimate and/or scope basis and design basis while meeting applicable state, local and federal standards and codes. Ensuring that any requirements for permitting have been established and communicated to the project team.

    • Must have a working knowledge of project scope and deliverables. Ensure that timely change notices are issued when deviations are made from the scope that affect schedule, deliverables or cost of the work.

    • Plan and organize the work and training of the Process Team.

    • Maintain control of projects by tracking and monitoring process engineering performance budget progress, schedule commitments, and quality standards. Understanding and utilizing project tools which are in place for project control.

    • Ensure that detail design calculations and drawings for the project are neatly prepared and organized for efficient checking by others and efficient use of drafters/designers for preparing drawings.

    • Ensure that project designs maintain an efficient use of construction materials with an overall emphasis on ease of construction and completed product meeting the expectations of the Client.

    • Ensure that the calculations made by the Process Engineering Team are accurate, meet the design criteria, and conform to codes, specifications, and good engineering practices.

    • Ensure that bid packages enable process engineering purchase inquiries to be issued for procurement of materials, equipment, or services.

    • Complete understanding of the skills and experience required to perform engineering and design functions.

    • Promote the development of process engineering standards, guidelines, checklists, and calculations to improve the overall efficiency and quality of work from the Process Team.

    • Ensure that process engineering standards, guidelines, and checklists are reviewed and updated periodically.

    • Participate in the planning of training programs, continuous education opportunities, and professional development of staff.

    Ideal Background

    Education: Bachelor or Master of Science degree in Chemical, Mechanical, Biochemical, or Petroleum Engineering from an accredited university.

    Registration: Professional Engineering registration or CPIP certification is highly preferred.

    Experience: This position requires 10 or more years of relevant industrial experience in process design engineering and management.

    • Ensure that Process Engineering Teammates are properly trained to meet Hargrove and applicable Client safety requirements.

    • Knowledgeable in most aspects of process safety and how to apply these requirements to process design.

    • Knowledge of design standards and codes.

    • Knowledge, application and specification of chemical/process materials.

    • Development of material, equipment, and service specifications.

    • Knowledge of good design practices for sizing process systems and equipment.

    • Knowledge of other disciplines deliverable development to ensure coordination of design efforts.

    • Knowledge and understanding of schedule constraints and information requirements for the production of all Process Engineering deliverables.

    • Ability to accurately estimate completion of assigned tasks.

    • Ability to develop a construction cost estimate, a detailed engineering schedule and a man-hour budget for all capital projects.

    • Develop design criteria and scopes of work.

    • Ability to create accurate installation documents from the information found on vendor equipment drawings.

    • Ability to develop equipment installation specifications.

    • Experienced in estimating and scheduling professional service hours and assessing the progress and quality of Process Engineering work.

    • Complete understanding of the skills and experience required to perform process design engineering functions.

    • Knowledge and application of company engineering design and CAD drafting standards.

    • Ability to lead teams on major capital projects to deliver on commitments.

    • Proficient in the use of Microsoft Word, Excel, PowerPoint, and Outlook.

    • Excellent communication skills, both verbal and written.

    • Excellent presentation skills.

    • Willing to travel as required for pre-bid meetings, Client presentations and project site meetings.

    • Excellent virtual team skills and cross divisional relationships. Acknowledged leadership in and proponent of interoffice execution.

    Physical Requirements:

    • Ability to sit, stand, or walk for long periods of time.
