    Essential functions (job duties):

    The Wayne State University (WSU) Department of Civil and Environmental Engineering (CEE) invites applications for a full time Research Associate position.

    The successful candidate will work closely with WSU faculty and Great Lakes Water Authority (GLWA) professionals to conduct research and training in the field of drinking water treatment and water quality in Detroit's Water Works Park Water Treatment Pilot Plant, with the following specific responsibilities:

    Pilot plant validation: develop and test validation methods that allows standard scaling relations between bench-scale, pilot and full-scale process water treatment parameters which will detail the scalability and limitations of each type of testing.

    Pilot plant operation: oversee and ensure continued operation of the pilot plant and test alternative treatment strategies and effects of changing treatment.

    Training: develop training modules for using pilot scale studies to evaluate water treatment processes.

    Analyze and summarize test data and results, and draft protocols, research reports, journal manuscripts, and other written documents.

    Assist in project management, training coordination, and student mentoring.

    Qualifications

    Doctoral degree in environmental engineering, chemical engineering, or related engineering areas; Master degree for candidates with excellent experiences in related areas.

    Experience in drinking water treatment processes, water quality analysis, experimental design and implementation, data analysis, etc.

    Experienced in chemical and biological analyses such as using microscopy, flow cytometry, LC-GC/MS, SEM, Raman, FTIR, or other analytical instruments for water quality testing.

    Excellent verbal and written communication skills, including experience in project management, student mentoring, and preparation of documents, reports and publications.

    Other Requirement: ability to obtain a valid Driver's License in the state of Michigan.
