Senior Mechanical Design Engineer - Acute Care & Monitoring
You will be a member of the Respiratory Interventions product development team. Specifically, you will join an R&D team creating category-redefining products for the high-growth airway management portfolio. Our team originated from Medtronic's acquisition of Aircraft Medical, and combines the agility of a startup with the support of an established manufacturer. You will work in a cooperative workspace with key cross-functional partners. Design, research, clinical science, marketing, and engineering come together to create meaningful products.
Location: Boulder, CO / Up to 20% domestic and/or international travel.

A Day in the Life
You will be a member of the technology and/or product development team that supports the design and development of innovative, new products within the Respiratory Intervention (RI) business. You will apply advanced technical strategy and concepts to solve complex problems and distill these down to simple, elegant product offerings which strike the appropriate balance of functionality and user engagement. We count on you to strengthen our procedural fluency in your specialty and to push the edges of how we produce beautiful products that inspire both internal and external stakeholders.
Support the design, development, and manufacture of devices for airway management
Recommends various technology options or approaches for system, processes, facility or program improvements in terms of safety, performance, efficiency or costs.
Design components to be manufactured via plastic injection molding, stamping, machining, extrusion, and related processes. Work with manufacturing to consider high volume assembly processes in design concepts.
Design, simulation, and experiments to support molded parts
Provide technical feasibility assessments.
Help ensure designs meet and exceed product specifications, regulatory requirements, and international standards.
Create and release engineering drawings.
Design of fixtures to support data collection and/or laboratory pilot builds.
Help develop specifications, test methodologies, and test equipment to evaluate design concepts.
Perform calculations, analyses, and engineering testing to verify the designs. Document results in reports and laboratory notebooks.
Work with suppliers to ensure components meet design requirements & diagnose design problems.
Travel to vendor locations and customers, global and domestic, as needed to help ensure programs meeting deadlines and troubleshoot issues.
Collaborate with other departments within Medtronic on development projects.
Present technical findings or project status to cross functional teams and management through meeting minutes, design reviews, presentations and other means of communication.
Supports the transfer between phases of project life cycle.
Develop and implement early phase mechanical concept design, perform tolerance analysis, finite element analysis or other design analysis.
Researches, plans, designs, verifies, validates and develops mechanical and/or electromechanical products and systems, such as metals, instruments, controls, plastics, robots, engines, machines and mechanical, resonance, hydraulic or heat transfer systems for production, transmission, measurement, and use of energy.
Recommends various technology options or approaches for system, processes, facility or program improvements in terms of safety, performance, efficiency or costs.
May be responsible for the transfer from R&D to manufacturing.

Must Have: Minimum Requirements
OR
Nice to Have
Degree in Mechanical Engineering, Biomedical Engineering, or Design and Industrial Engineering
Medical device experience
Experience 3D modeling software, i.e. SolidWorks and/or Creo, preferable SolidWorks
Strong understanding of mechanical engineering principles and methodologies
High degree of initiative and self-motivation
Experience designing and developing portable miniature electromechanical assemblies
Hands-on, handy with measuring equipment and/or able to learn how to use new equipment fast
Solid understanding of contemporary manufacturing techniques
Experience designing parts that have been manufactured at scale
Designing for rapid prototyping methods
Experience solving ambiguous problems
Experience in product design and development in an R&D environment, familiar with surface modeling and able to design a mechanism from scratch
Experience in polymer material selection
Experience working on a cross functional engineering team
Experience working on a team with an international footprint
Experience creating technical, written content
Demonstrated data analysis skills

The provided base salary range is used nationally (except in certain CA locations).?The rate offered is compliant with federal/local regulations and may vary by experience,?certification/education, market conditions, location, etc.
