  • Position Overview

    Navistar is currently seeking a Senior Mechanical Engineer within the School Bus Components team.This team is responsible for the Body Structure, Interior Trim, Seats and Safety Equipment. This position will have exposure to numerous cross functional teams, such as, procurement, validation engineering, manufacturing engineering and other functional engineering groups. This position will work to design parts that meet all state and federal regulations as well as maintain the projects budget and timing.

    Responsibilities

    • Design parts that meet internal, as well as state and federal requirements for the school bus application

    • Develop project plans to hit project milestones and deliverables

    • Coordinate with cross functional teams to ensure timing is met

    • Present designs in weekly engineering reviews

    • Manage multiple projects at one time

    • Availability to travel approximately 10%

    Minimum Requirements

    • Bachelor's degree in Engineering, Engineering Technology or Computer Science

    • At least 8 years of experience in product design/development and/or computer science experience

    • At least 1 year leading others in engineer/design activities

    OR

    • Master's degree in Engineering, Engineering Technology or Computer Science

    • At least 6 years of experience in product design/development and/or computer science experience

    • At least 1 year leading others in engineer/design activities

    OR

    • PhD in Engineering, Engineering Technology or Computer Science

    • At least 3 years of experience in product design/development and/or computer science experience

    • At least 1 year leading others in engineer/design activities

    Additional Requirements

    • Qualified candidates, excluding current Navistar employees, must be legally authorized on an unrestricted basis (US Citizen, Legal Permanent Resident, Refugee or Asylee) to be employed in the United States.     Desired Skills

    • Mechanical Engineering degree preferred

    • Strong communication skills

    • HIGH sense of urgency

    • Unigraphics (preferred) or other solid modeling cad software

    • CAD experience and familiar with CAD concepts

    • Strong project management skills / Knowledge of MS Project

    • Experience with FMVSS and CMVSS Federal Regulations

    • Ability to work independently on multiple projects
