    Job Summary and Qualifications

    The Senior Unified Communications Engineer is responsible to perform complex to advanced unified communications telephony support to support Unified Communication voice and video systems and equipment. Under minimum supervision is responsible for providing routine move add change requests as well as telephone programming to dial plans and dial route patterns. Responsible to respond to trouble tickets and work order requests to support customer requests for telephony and video support. Responsible for the programming and deployment of telephony endpoints and fax services. Utilizes software and hardware tools, identifies, and diagnoses complex to advanced problems and factors affecting network performance. Serves as Subject Matter Expert for telephony issues to support division and facility staff for all unified communications issues. Follows established procedures for supporting business service applications, routers, switches, servers, circuits and other computer hardware infrastructure. Applies technical skills and procedures appropriate for the position.

    General responsibilities:

    • Install and troubleshoot unified communication applications; internal/external servers, network hardware, and related infrastructure.

    • Provide Move, Adds, and Changes for telephony request to include programming and deploying of end points as well as software groups, system parameters, class of service.

    • Support Voice Mail (Unity Connections) support for routine individual user requests as well as hunt groups, call vectors, automatic call distribution groups (ACD's).

    • Perform all unified communication administration on voice and video solutions, making routine software changes, maintaining records, and maintaining equipment inventory.

    • Ability to monitor unified communication voice operations to identify and solve technical operating problems.

    • Respond to complex and technical user service requests/inquiries that involve problem recognition, research, isolation and resolution. Collaborate with other teams in designing solutions to solve complex problems.

    • Liaisons with unified communications and telecommunications vendors during trouble determination, evaluation, and resolution and processes all repair orders accurately and quickly to ensure technician response.

    • Interprets network alert and performance management tool output to properly engineer the capacity and resiliency of the unified communications protocols and configurations of the network.

    • Install, troubleshoot and maintain telephony infrastructure to support fax machines and electronic faxing.

    • Install, troubleshoot and maintain interface between Unified Communications infrastructure and facility overhead paging infrastructure.

    • Install and maintain cabling plant infrastructure for Analog telephony installations that are supported on Unified Communications Infrastructure.

    • Ability to comprehend and implement best practices for Unified Communications, analyze routine production problems and select corrective action.

    • Interfaces with customers and senior engineers to translate business acumen and rules into unified communication application requirements and deliverables.

    • Researches error messages and uses analytical and problem solving skills to take necessary corrective actions.

    • Maintains unified communication architecture diagrams, problem documentation and actions taken.

    • Guide, train, instruct, and assists unified communication engineers and associate engineers on unified communications best practices and resolving technical issues.

    Customer Service Orientation:

    Researches the underlying needs of business partners and recommends options with cost benefits. Recommends service level expectations for specific processes, systems, and applications. Educates team on performance improvements opportunities offered by existing and new technologies. Responds to escalated service issues and involves other subject matter experts and vendors as needed.

    Flexibility:

    Prioritizes effective responses to numerous diverse challenges and demands. Develops, proposes and implements strategies to overcome barriers to problem resolution. Proactively fosters flexibility by leading and participating in process definition, cross-training and project assignments. Set cross-functional shared agendas and challenging organization barriers to create a consistent response to the customers.

    Problem solving:

    Diagnoses problems using formal problem-solving tools and techniques to generate multiple potential solutions. Proactively anticipates and reviews data and makes recommendation and guides implementation of corrective or preventative actions for complex issues.

    Attention to detail:

    Identifies potential areas of conflicting priorities and vulnerability in achieving standards. Reviews department's progress against established goals, objectives, service level targets and project milestones. Provides support in achieving deliverables by reviewing work for accuracy and reviewing and approving work prior to assignment completion.

    External Service Provider assessment:

    Researches and analyzes best in class vendors and identifies vendors and products that support the business strategy. Articulates options and makes a recommendation for the best match between service/product and business requirements. Proposes performance criteria and standards to meet business needs for formal evaluation.

    Risk Management:

    Assess the probability associated with varying degrees of risk. Identifies potential for risk in complex situations that have wide ranging impact. Sets objectives and standards for the long-term reduction of risk. Recommends course of action to minimize risk.

    Vendor Management:

    Works with vendor and partners to identify strategic opportunities and define solutions to meet the needs of multiple stakeholders. Participates in the management of contractual and service level agreements with one or more partners. Reviews performance trends against service level agreements and coordinates governance processes.

    Foundation Architecture Knowledge:

    Actively participates in the research and design of new architectural components. Can assess benefits and drawbacks of proposed changes. Serves as consultant level resources to project teams.

    Network Technology Knowledge:

    Integrates information from multiple sources into the design and development of network system and serves in lead role in architecture definition and implementation. Applies the latest technologies and recommends the technical solution, required capital expenditure, component purchasing, and contracting resources for setting up, enhancing, and maintaining unified communications networks.

    • Adheres to and supports HCA IT&S standards, policies and procedures.

    • Maintains and protects confidentiality with regard to all aspects of patient care and employee information.

    Education & Experience:

    • Technical Degree Preferred

    • 3 plus Years Related Work Experience
