Job Summary and Qualifications

To provide efficient and effective network operations, administration, management, maintenance, and support of current and future Galen server resources, data and telecommunications network, services, infrastructure, systems, storage, and enterprise or departmental client-server applications and databases.

Position Responsibilities:

Essential Duties:

1. Administer and maintain Galen's internal application servers.

2. Develop hardware / software specifications, order, configure, and set up all new server systems.

3. Ensure maximum resiliency, reliability, and availability of all system and network resources.

4. Upgrade, install, troubleshoot and patch / repair server hardware devices and software.

5. Maintain inventory and documentation of server / network equipment and reseller activities.

6. Plan and coordinate with remote administrators for edge server / network changes.

7. Recommend, schedule, and conduct repairs / upgrades to the SAN and related network systems.

8. Perform Disaster Recovery planning and routine backup / recovery of server / network assets.

9. Document system standards / policy for server and network devices and usage.

10. Assist in planning and implementing server, services, and data network security policies and procedures.

11. Assist administration of email services and telecommunications for employee / students.

12. Assist with customer requests and desktop / lab / classroom technology support, as required.

13. Other duties as assigned. Flexibility, goal orientation, positive attitude, and teamwork are key.

Position Requirements:

• Education : Minimum of Associate's Degree in Computer Science, Information Technology, or related business discipline. Bachelor's Degree preferred. Extensive experience and qualifications may be substituted for education, on a case by case basis.

• Certifications: Highly desirable, in any computer related area or concentration, preferably with a server, client / server, and networking concentration (Microsoft, Redhat, etc.).

Special Qualifications :

1. Minimum 1-2 years prior experience (preferably more) in server / application support, implementation and administration - including Microsoft Windows Servers, IIS, WSUS, Active Directory, Group Policy, Exchange, and SAN.

2. Basic SAN and/or SQL Server database administration skills a plus, as well as practical skills in Linux / LAMP, network / computer security, Windows desktop OS and applications suite support, and use of a trouble ticketing system.

3. Basic Cisco switching / routing knowledge also desirable.

4. Ability to communicate orally and written in a professional manner.

5. Strong analytical and problem-solving skills and ability to work well both alone and in a distributed team setting, including vendors, resellers, and partners.

6. Physical Requirements : Ability to lift 50 pounds, climb ladders, and access small spaces.

7. Degree of Supervision: Minimal.
