    T HE ROLE : The Senior Engineering Technician is part of the Global Hardware Team consisting of dedicated and talented individuals responsible for the design, development, verification, and sustaining of a wide variety of products. The team designs, tests, and supports products that meet utility and industry requirements as well as internal requirements for reliability, performance, accuracy, and cost. This includes, but is not limited to, water, electric, and gas meters, smartpoints, cathodic protection devices, smart gateways, Distribution Automation products, handheld computers, installations and interrogation devices, and a wide variety of RF communication products. These products are state-of-the art microcontroller or DSP based embedded systems, typically with integrated radios, where the electronic design is typically battery powered and must operate in harsh environments for 20 years.

    CORE RESPONSIBILITIES: To perform the job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential duty satisfactorily.

    • Perform current consumption analysis on all new product releases to validate compliance with energy constraints. Update the process and methods to improve automation, efficiency and repeatability.

    • Build and modify engineering prototypes, including electronic printed circuit board assemblies

    • Assemble products, test fixtures, or other devices/equipment to support the engineering design teams

    • Design, specify, and build custom test fixtures and lab tools to support product testing/verification and prototype builds.

    • Soldering of fine pitch electronics circuits - replacing components, making circuit modifications, building prototypes, repairing circuits, etc.

    • Conduct basic circuit testing and analysis

    • Conduct xray analysis of circuit board assemblies

    • Management, calibration, and repair of all test equipment used by the R&D teams in Morrisville.

    • Establish and perform preventative maintenance on specific test equipment and machinery

    • Manage inventory and stocking of all lab consumables

    • Place small dollar orders as required for components, lab supplies, test fixture components, materials for design experimentation, etc.

    • Reconcile financial records from purchasing activities

    • Ability to automate test methods

    • Participation in Xylem Watermark volunteer activities

    QUALIFICATIONS :

    • AS degree in Electronic Technology or equivalent experience

    • IPC certification in fine pitch soldering and circuit repair.

    • 5+ years' working in an electronics design lab and/or manufacturing environment

    • Demonstrated experience working on electronic assemblies with fine pitch components, including thru hole, surface mount, WLCSP, BGAs and 0201 sized passive components.

    • Excellent organizational capabilities

    • Experience with inventory and equipment management and maintenance

    • Solid mechanical aptitude, experience with operating machinery

    • Sound knowledge of electronics fundamentals

    • Experience with testing and troubleshooting of electronics

    • Proficient with PCs and Microsoft Office tools

    • Good multi-tasking abilities

    • Customer focused and service oriented behaviors

    • Ability to manage 3rd party suppliers and service providers

    • Experience with electronic test equipment such as oscilloscopes, DAQs, thermal chambers, ESD guns, signal generators, power meters, multimeters

    • Work individually or as a team.

    • At times must prioritize and execute on multiple projects, other times must focus on single critical tasks.

    • Excellent communications skills

    • The ability and desire to work in a fast paced environment, engaging with a cross functional team (e.g. electrical, firmware, mechanical and system test engineers) to contribute to the development of a complex AMI/AMR system

    • Experience with Labview or other languages/tools used in automating electronic and mechanical testing.

    • Familiarity with industry standards for utility products (ANSI, FCC, Intrinsic Safety, etc)

    • Regularly required to sit or stand, reach, bend and move about the facility

    • Office: Standard office equipment; work usually performed in an office setting free from any disagreeable elements.

    SALARY :

    Starting pay is dependent on multiple factors, such as skills, experience, and work location, and is not typically at the top of the range.
