    Northrop Grumman Mission Systems (NGMS) is looking for you to join our team as a Staff Engineer Embedded Software based out of Salt Lake City, UT. The qualified applicant will become part of Northrop Grumman's software engineering team creating and maintaining unique software applications that interface with cutting edge inertial navigation and measurement systems used in military and civilian applications from undersea to outer space.

    Description:

    Designs, develops, operates, and maintains software and firmware components and computing systems software to be applied to and integrated with engineering, scientific and manufacturing requirements. Applies the appropriate standards, processes, procedures, and tools throughout the system development life cycle to support the generation of engineering applications and products such as test equipment control software, product calibration software, and engineering data processing. Interfaces with customers, suppliers, application users and other technical and support personnel.

    The position provides opportunities for designing and supporting exciting new software solutions to help modernize our product line. The primary software products are object-oriented C# designs developed using Microsoft Visual Studio, while supporting older programs in C++. Other software products provide a wide variety of opportunities with technologies including Perl, PL/SQL, Java, shell scripting, JavaScript, CSS, Python, Matlab/Simulink, Excel VBA and more. Software development tasks may include everything from GUI design to low-level engineering code.

    Roles and Responsibilities:

    • Independently design and develop new software using object-oriented methods.

    • Senior technical leadership in small peer development teams and department strategy.

    • Mentor and train junior software engineers.

    • Sharing of knowledge and best practices via presentations, white papers and communities of practice.

    • Troubleshoot complex software problems in existing manufacturing equipment, then develop solutions.

    • Maintain and update existing software applications.

    • Lead collaboration with hardware engineering, manufacturing engineering and manufacturing. end-users to provide robust and user-friendly applications.

    • Analyze and document system/software design and requirements.

    • Assist in software product estimation and scheduling.

    Basic Qualifications:

    • Bachelor's degree in Science, Technology, Engineering, and Mathematics (STEM) discipline with14 years of experience in writing software in an object-oriented language; 12 years of experience with a Master's Degree; 9 years of experience with a Ph.D.

    • Experience in object-oriented design & programming, software development fundamentals, and requirements analysis.

    • Experience in a technical leadership role.

    • Excellent oral and written communication skills.

    • Ability to comprehend and analyze complex problems and develop solutions.

    Preferred Qualifications:

    • Experience with software product estimation, planning and scheduling.

    • Prior exposure to an Aerospace and Defense manufacturing environment.

    • Multi-disciplined background or experience in other engineering fields.

    • Experience troubleshooting software with hardware in the loop.

    • Experience with C# and/or C++.

    Salary Range: $142,500 - $213,700

    The above salary range represents a general guideline; however, Northrop Grumman considers a number of factors when determining base salary offers such as the scope and responsibilities of the position and the candidate's experience, education, skills and current market conditions.

    Employees may be eligible for a discretionary bonus in addition to base pay. Annual bonuses are designed to reward individual contributions as well as allow employees to share in company results. Employees in Vice President or Director positions may be eligible for Long Term Incentives. In addition, Northrop Grumman provides a variety of benefits including health insurance coverage, life and disability insurance, savings plan, Company paid holidays and paid time off (PTO) for vacation and/or personal business.
