    Opportunity

    The Staff Engineer is responsible for simulating and validating the thermal performance of engine cooling systems, alternators, and power electronics for new product development and advanced product development organizations.

    Specific Responsibilities

    • Leverage computational fluid dynamics (CFD) tools including STAR-CCM+ and Altair uFx to optimize cooling systems including fan designs, radiator core selection, and surrounding mechanical structure to ensure generator set cooling targets are achieved.

    • Participate in the advance development process by modeling and designing advanced thermal management systems.

    • Serve as advisor for genset engineering team and provide technical input early in programs to ensure performance technical risks are addressed either by modeling or experimental methods, e.g. mule builds.

    • Utilize analytic methods including CFD to validate and optimize designs of heat sinks for electronics.

    • Utilize analytic methods including CFD to model restriction of piping systems including fuel delivery systems and engine exhaust systems.

    • Utilize numerical simulation and test methods for thermal modeling of all Kohler designed and manufactured alternators.

    • Perform experimental measurements for thermal simulation validation as necessary

    • Monitor commercial tools in the area of CFD and heat transfer ensuring appropriate tools are in house to meet development requirements.Provide economic justification for future investments.

    • Publish technical documents in the form of technical information bulletins, engineering best practice guidelines for generator set cooling, lab test procedures, and external white papers.

    Skills/Requirements

    • BS - Mechanical Engineering from an ABET accredited institution

    • Advanced degree is preferred however experience is equally valued

    • 6+ years of work experience and/or graduate experience is required

    The salary range for this position is $98,900 - $125,600. The specific salary offered to a candidate may be influenced by a variety of factors including the candidate's experience, their education, and the work location. Available benefits include medical, dental, vision & 401k.
