Substation Design Engineer

Job Summary

POWER Engineers is currently seeking a design engineer with experience in substation design. This position is in the Power Delivery Substation Department in our Mount Laurel, New Jersey office. Flexibility is available to work remotely and/or in the office (remote employees will need to drive to the office for occasional meetings).

Roles and Responsibilities

• Perform and direct others in the detailed design of medium to extra high voltage utility substations.

• One-line diagrams, elementary and wiring diagrams, SCADA, communications, conduit and cable sizing/routing, substation physical layouts, selection of substation equipment, writing of substation equipment specifications, proposal development, construction cost estimates, and project scheduling.

• Occasional travel will be required.

Required Education/Experience

• BSEE (BS Electrical Engineering), BSEET (BS Electrical Engineering Technology), BSME (BS Mechanical Engineering), or BSCE (BS Civil Engineering).

• Experience in 15kV through 230kV substation design and IEEE/ANSI standards.

• Experience filling the role of substation design engineer for several projects occurring concurrently.

• Engineer in Training (EIT) or passed the Fundamentals of Engineering (FE) exam.

• The candidate must have strong command of the English language with good written and oral communication skills in order to work effectively with internal team members and external client personnel.

• Candidates must be legally authorized to work permanently in the U.S. without the need for work sponsorship.

Desired Education/Experience

• Four (4) or more years experience in utility substation design as outlined above.

• Experience in 345kV through 500kV substation design.

• Professional Engineering license (PE).

• Experience in managing small project teams.
