    New ideas are all around us, but only a few will change the world. That's our focus at JPL. We ask the biggest questions, then search the universe for answers-literally. We build upon ideas that have guided generations, then share our discoveries to inspire generations to come. Your mission-your opportunity-is to seek out the answers that bring us one step closer. If you're driven to discover, create, and inspire something that lasts a lifetime and beyond, you're ready for JPL.

    Located in Pasadena, California, JPL has a campus-like environment situated on 177 acres in the foothills of the San Gabriel Mountains and offers a work environment unlike any other: we inspire passion, foster innovation, build collaboration, and reward excellence.

    Responsibilities

    We are seeking an engineering undergraduate intern to join the Instrument Electronics Group and participate in the development of the next generation of space instrument electronics hardware. Electronics used in space-based instruments require very low noise and wide frequency. At the same time these electronics need to operate over a very wide temperature range. This opportunity will involve looking for, identifying, and testing electronics designs that can meet the noise/power and frequency requirements for NASA's WFIRST Coronagraph instrument (CGI).

    As an intern in the Instrument Electronics Group, you will have the opportunity to gain hands on experience in the following ways:

    • Hands-on work experience in the application of the concepts and theory of electrical engineering to practical development and test of electronics hardware.

    • Responsibility for assisting other engineers and participating on design teams to design, develop, and oversee tests of electronics hardware and support equipment for WFIRST CGI.

    • Interfacing with instrument electronics and instrument systems engineers, and may interface with engineers from other subsystems, project staff, and electronics fabrication staff.

    • Working under the direction of the group supervisor and other experienced team members on the instrument electronics development tasks.

    Qualifications

    Required

    • Must be currently enrolled at an accredited college or university pursuing a Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering, Electronics Engineering, or similar technical discipline.

    • Must have a minimum cumulative GPA of 3.0 out of 4.0.

    Desired

    • Experience in the application of standard principles, theories, concepts and techniques in electronic circuit design, simulation, and test, particularly focused on analog electronics;

    • Experience in the application of standard principles, theories, concepts, and techniques in electronics design and development, including knowledge of the use of computer-aided engineering tools to support the electronics design process.

    • Experience with the fabrication, assembly, and test of electronics assemblies.

    Work Authorization

    U.S. Citizen or Permanent Resident
