  • The IT Lead of Infrastructure Engineering for North America (NA) is responsible for providing the leadership, facilitation, analysis and design tasks required for vetting out solutions to unique Infrastructure demand from the business or other areas of IT (Automation, Data Science, Security, Application, etc.) in NA.

    The Lead Engineer does research, spearheads analysis, achieves alignment, architects and documents solution decisions for technical demands in a manor that can be executed by the delivery teams and adopted as standard practice if applicable. They sit at the demand gate for NA IT to enable and orchestrate the delivery of targeted business or IT outcomes through facilitating and making technical decisions.

    The Lead Engineer architects and creates deliverables that help develop target-state guidance (standards, guidelines, individual parts, platforms and configurations) for evolving the technical infrastructure across the NA region, in order to enable business strategy and deliver targeted business outcomes.

    This role will report directly to the VP of IT - NA Run Time Organization (RTO) and collaborate closely with Director of IT - Planning and Demand Management to properly vet and mature solutions in a Plan, Build, Run model so they can be executed. Although, this role is NA in scope, the expectations are that the designs and decisions would be done in alignment and coordination with our Global IT RTO team.

    Key Responsibilities

    Interpret Business and/or IT Needs

    • Translates and analyzes business and technical requirements into a design/architectural document so they can be fully understood, and decisions can be easily made.

    • Works closely with all areas of IT both at the global and regional level to ensure current standards and a robust technical architectural runway exists which can support current and future business and IT requirements.

    • Understands business drivers and business capabilities (future and current state) and determines, in collaboration with others, corresponding Infrastructure solution designs and change requirements to drive the organization's targeted business or IT outcomes.

    Assess Infrastructure Technology

    • Understands technology trends (specifically around networking, RF/Wireless, and automation in warehousing) and the practical application of existing, new and emerging technologies to enable new and evolving business and operating models.

    • Guides technology investment decisions based on analysis and evaluation to drive targeted business outcomes while ensuring nonfunctional requirements are met. Helps determine with others the cost and benefits (value and TO) of those investments.

    • Oversees and facilitates (with the global team and other areas of IT) the research, evaluation, and selection of hardware and software technology and product standards, as well as the design of standard configurations.

    • Identifies the organizational impact (for example, on skills, processes, structures and culture) and financial impact of the enterprise technology architecture.

    • Consults and guides application, security, automation and infrastructure teams towards the proper solution(s) for their need and re-uses standard technology as much as possible

    Apply Infrastructure Technology

    • Leads technology change to deliver business outcomes while also virtually leveraging subject matter experts from any other needed technical area.

    • Oversees, or consults on, technology implementation and modification activities, primarily for new infrastructure solutions.

    • Consults on IT (DS, Security, Automation) or infrastructure development projects to harmonize systems or infrastructure with the global architecture and identify when it is necessary to modify the technology architecture to accommodate immediate or future project needs.

    • Works closely with the program or project teams or other IT support areas to ensure the execution of plans corresponds with what is being promised throughout the project or product life cycle.

    • Collaborates with business constituents, global RTO team, project teams and staff in various IT functional areas (DS, Automation, Security, Product, etc.) as needed to fulfill the responsibilities described above.

    • Documents technology architecture designs and analysis work so execution teams understands the logic behind the solution decision. Performs post-mortem review to improve decision making abilities as projects complete.

    • Defines the principles, guidelines, standards and solution patterns to ensure solution decisions are aligned with the enterprise's future-state architecture vision.

    Experience / Education / Skills

    • Bachelor's degree in computer science, information technology, engineering, system analysis or a related study, or equivalent experience

    • 5+ years' experience of solution development in technical/infrastructure architecture and network management disciplines.

    • Exposure to multiple, diverse technical configurations, technologies and processing environments (preferably in the automated WHS and/or MFG industries).

    • Excellent interpersonal skills in areas such as teamwork, facilitation and negotiation

    • Strong leadership skills

    • Strong network management and design skills (Cisco/Meraki)

    • Background familiarity with PLC communication systems & industrial fieldbuses

    • Excellent analytical and technical skills

    • Excellent written and verbal communication skills

    • Excellent planning and organizational skills

    • Knowledge of many, if not most, components of an enterprise technology architecture

    • Knowledge of IT service management (ITSM) and Information Technology Infrastructure Library (ITIL)

    • Knowledge of different modeling languages

    • Knowledge of IT standards and controls

    • Understanding of information principles and processes

    • Understanding of financial models and budgeting

    • Understanding of network and security architecture

    • Understanding of system development life cycle methodologies (such as waterfall, spiral, agile software development, rapid prototyping, incremental, synchronize and stabilize, and DevOps)

    Salary Range: $112,500 - $150,000
