We have an immediate need for a UXO Technician II to support our client base in Fort Irwin, CA.

    The UXO Technician II will be involved on projects and tasks that commensurate with their training level and at no time will they be asked or allowed to perform tasks exceeding their experience/training level per Department of Defense Explosives Safety Board Technical Paper (DDESB TP) 18. These tasks will involve removal of Munitions Debris (MD) and Cultural Debris (CD), operation of geophysical detection instruments and related equipment for field searches of UXO/Munitions and Explosives of Concern (MEC) and Discarded Military Munitions (DMM), and identification of military munitions. Work may also include GPS survey support, Geophysical Team support, and/or other duties as project work dictates.

    In a typical day the UXO Technician will

    • Work in a team environment to successfully complete project goals.

    • Be familiar with and perform work in accordance with KGS's project Work Plan (WP), Explosives Safety Submission (ESS), Health & Safety Plan, research documents, and professionally-accepted practices.

    • Excavate subsurface MPPEH and MEC.

    • Determine precise location in field environment using a variety of techniques such as use of global positioning equipment, or basic land navigation techniques using topographical map.

    • Perform as a laborer or operator as needed in support of MEC operations.

    • Operation of heavy equipment (by properly trained personnel).

    • Conduct visual and/or detector aided UXO/MEC and DMM field search activities.

    • Locate subsurface UXO/MEC and DMM by operating geophysical detection instruments.

    • Inspect MD, CD, and other material as part of the MPPEH process in order to establish the potential presence of energetic material.

    • Communicate effectively with others; asks appropriate questions to clarify expectations.

    • Accept responsibility for meeting standards of quality required by KGS.

    • Take ownership of assignments, see them through to completion, and meet internal deadlines.

    • Implement assignments in accordance with health and safety and quality control requirements.

    • Adhere to project-specific safety policies.

    • Execute field activities; record and maintain adequate documentation.

    • Perform field maintenance and calibration checks on geophysical detection instruments and related equipment.

    • Perform limited technical supervision of UXO personnel.

    • Escort personnel who are not directly involved in UXO-related operations (e.g., personnel performing environmental monitoring, but have activities to perform with exclusion areas).

    The top candidate will be a graduate of a UXO Technician I Course or a Military EOD School of the United States, Canada, Great Britain, Germany, or Australia and will be a qualified UXO Technician II. In addition, candidates must have the 40hr HAZWOPER certification, along with any applicable 8hr HAZWOPER refresher course, as well as meet the minimum qualifications for the position as mandated by DDESB TP-18. The ability to understand project requirements based on interpretation of project plans and specifications along with maintaining strong communication skills, both verbal and written are required. Must be able to bend over frequently and be able to lift to 50lbs regularly.

    The hourly rate for this position is $38.34, plus $4.60 towards health and welfare dollars. Due to the long-term duration of this project (approximately two years), daily per diem and travel reimbursement is not included as part of the compensation for this position.
