    What you will do

    • The Lead Cost Engineer will be responsible for managing the development and sourcing of new products from concept to launch.

    • The ideal candidate will have exposure with costing principles, procurement, and product design to enable the individual to work cross-functionally with various project teams and suppliers to ensure parts are sourced at the lowest cost at the right supplier.

    • Act as a Liaison between product design and the supply base to ensure designs are manufacturable and that parts are sourced with suppliers that match their core competencies.

    • Have exposure to multiple types of manufacturing processes and understand how these processes are applied to a given part design. They will have a passion for understanding how things are manufactured at how to procure parts at a fair cost.

    • Responsible for working with preferred suppliers on new projects assuring proper agreements are in place. (i.e., project development agreement, non-disclosure agreements)

    • Assure parts are sourced with preferred supply base. Work with Strategic Sourcing Manager on alternate sourcing solution, where capability is not available in the preferred supplier list.

    • Develop proactive escalation plans to avoid project derailment.

    What you will need

    • Bachelors Degree in Industrial / Mechanical / Manufacuring Engineering, Industrial Technology, or a related discipline

    • 5+ years of successful Engineering operations / Manufacturing / Project Management experience

    Skills, Experience & Abilities

    • The incumbent must be a strong communicator, with diverse groups of people throughout HYG's global operations, under stressful conditions, and must have good organizational skills regarding work priorities and project-management requirements. MS Office

    • Strong Project management skills

    • Must be able to influence critical elements and activities within the project and be capable of reporting "unpopular" and / or controversial positions to project and procurement management.

    • Diplomacy and negotiation skills must always be exercised, even in difficult situations. This individual must be capable of effectively handling multiple projects and being able to provide detailed cost-benefit analysis to back sourcing decisions made in support of the projects being managed.

    • Demonstrated ability to develop target costs, identify key cost drivers and to use tools and methods in tracking and validating part costs.

    • Skill in negotiating and communicating with suppliers and internal stakeholders

    • Ability to read and understand engineering drawings and specifications.

    • Competence in the using Microsoft applications.

    • Ability to work independently.

    • Strong communication, and interpersonal skills.

    Supplier Engagement

    • Take leadership role in developing part should costs and negotiating with suppliers to achieve targets.

    • Engage preferred suppliers on new projects new part development and ensure proper agreements are in place (e.g., development agreements, and non-disclosure agreements).

    Development Center Support:

    • Act as a liaison between the supplier and product design to ensure designs are manufacturable and designed at the lowest cost.

    • Lead should-cost activities utilizing standard costing methodology

    • Manage part design changes with suppliers from initial sourcing through start of production.

    • Develop and validate target costs for components utilizing data such as quotes, competitive benchmark data or should-cost analysis.

    Sourcing Activities

    • Manage procurement/sourcing activities with strategic suppliers in accordance with defined cost targets, budgets, and project timelines. Provide status updates to leadership.

    • Develop supplier risk management strategies for new product launches.

    • Manage procurement of components during all phases of development.

    Project Management

    • Communicate global project strategies and risk mitigation plans to Product Engineering, Manufacturing, and Supply Chain, and Supplier Quality Engineering.

    • Develop proactive escalation and mitigation plans as necessary to achieve project objectives.

    • Provide recommendations in support of product development gated review processes.

    • Create and manage project budgets for supplier tooling, prototype parts, and additional procured components.
